How many girls are there on a Recreation Softball team?

Players are distributed evenly across teams, so the final number of players on each team will vary depending on how many girls register in each division.  The goal is to have 11 or 12 players on each team; however, the number of players may be as low as 10 or as high as 14.

How are Recreation Softball teams selected?

The manner in which Recreation Softball teams are selected differs depending upon whether the division is a “teaching” division or a “competitive” division (i.e., if standings are kept).

For the younger “teaching” divisions (i.e., T-Ball, Coach Pitch, Rookie), teams are selected by the MSO Softball Committee following registration.  Girls are allowed to request one friend with whom they would like to be paired and these request are honored as much as possible.  In addition, in an effort to keep friends together, girls are generally teamed up with other girls from their school.  As the focus in the T-Ball / Coach Pitch division is on learning the game of softball and having fun, competitive balance is not a major factor in selecting teams.  Since the Rookie Division will keep standings and have playoffs, more attention is paid to competitive balance when forming these teams.

For the older “competitive” divisions (i.e., Junior, Senior), competitive balance teams is the primary factor considered when selecting team.  Following registration, all players must participate in a short skills evaluation session after which coaches select their teams in a draft.  This system has proven the most effective way to ensure that fair teams are formed in the older divisions.

After a rain-out, the schedules should be updated within 48 - 72 hours with the date, time and location of your make-up game.  Coaches are responsible for checking the site for make-up game details.

COACHES:  For details on how to report game scores, see the article Reporting Game Scores in the Coaches' Corner section.

If you have any difficulties, please contact the MSO Softball Committee for assistance.

NOTE:  Recreation Softball teams are scheduled to play a 10 game schedule, however, games may need to be moved or canceled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.  MSO Softball and the Recreation Department will make every effort to reschedule all games, but if fields / make-up dates are not available, then some games may not be rescheduled.
