What equipment does my daughter need to play Recreation Softball?

All Recreation Softball players must supply their own glove.  It is also recommended that players wear cleats.  All other equipment (e.g., bats, batting helmets, etc.) will be supplied by your daughter's team.

Note:  Although, MSO Softball will provide all equipment beside a glove, many players will elect to use their own equipment (e.g., bats, batting helmets, etc.).  If you elect to supply your daughter with her own batting helmet, then it MUST have a cage (i.e., a face mask).  In addition, if you elect to supply your daughter with her own bat, then it MUST be ASA Certified.  For more information on ASA bat certifications, see the ASA website.

Will there be practices in addition to games?

For the younger divisions (i.e., T-Ball, Coach Pitch), there are no separate practices.  Instead, the games are divided into practice time and games.  The first half is devoted to instruction and conducting drills in order to help the girls learn the game of softball and develop softball skills.  Following the practice time, the girls play a short game (usually no more than a couple of innings) in which every players get a chance to bat and play the field.

For the older divisions (i.e., Rookie, Junior, Senior), there is no fixed practice schedule.  Practices will be held at the coach’s discretion as and when fields are available.

What does the Recreation Softball uniform look like?

The Recreation Softball uniform is comprised of a sleeveless t-shirt, pants and socks.  Uniforms are paid for by the team sponsor and are emblazoned with the sponsor name and/or logo.  Girls are given pants instead of shorts in order to encourage sliding as they learn the game.
