MISSION VIEJO, CA - Over 70 Nova Masters swimmers contributed to the effort to win the championship over the host Mission Viejo Nadadores Masters swim program. The meet looked to be a very close battle between Nova and the host Mission Viejo Nadadores who had a fairly equal number of entries the meet.

However, Nova proved to have too much talent as well as depth and won the meet convincingly.

Each day seems to get better. They would put American Idol contestants to shame. Seattle just up the road is famous for its music and it shows. Pretty sure Federal Way has the largest American Flag of any swimming pool in the country. *On Friday of the meet several of the Nova Masters personally dined with the head of the 2008 Fina World Swim Championships in Australia and Michael Moore who organized the 2006 event at Stanford. Cool to get an inside scoop of whats to come and how to get there!
BRENTWOOD, CA - 9 Nova Masters swimmers spent Cinco De Mayo in the UCLA drinko – pool that is. The beautiful old brick building surrounding the UCLA pool tamed the Santa Ana winds and warm sunshine. A near perfect swim day. Coach Mike Collins sent new assistant coach, Ahelee, up for the meet with newer meet swimmers, Veronica Sario, Kevin Lam, Heather Scheferman, and Bob Johnson. So what did these new swimmers do? Were they shy-reserved- only 1 or 2 swim team mates? No! They swam the 500 free Did race starts - from the blocks! Flew off walls with dolphin streamlines Early in the meet they formed the Nova B 200 Free Relay and raced head to head with the other participating teams. And literally crushed every best time. “Needless to say I was super happy.. who was this person swimming ..I didn't think it was me. Who would have I thought I was capable of doing this especially since I just learned butterfly this last year :)" - Veronica Sario Veteran Nova swimmers Terry Tongate, Liam Murphy, Christen Foster, and Marni Sugdon, went to work at breaking team records, season best times, and encouraging the new NOVAs. The four teamed up for a 200 Free Relay. Although a medley relay might have been faster… with a specialty swimmer for each stroke in the group. UCLA must have seen them coming and made all the relays free! Christen and Marni, the amazing Nova sister team, came to UCLA breaking from juggling new babies and responsibilities. Both hoped to take a last short course crack at team records in backstroke and butterfly. DONE! Hope to see more of these two at practice. Terry tried to recruit Ahelee’s 80 year old father to fill his spot on the relay. Anything to get out of another hard swim effort. But true to his team loyalty he rallied and stayed to the meet end. Actually, he even unscratched the 100 IM to dual Ahelee side by side in a final heat. Gruff ol’ guy with a big heart. Packing up the team area, talk was all about the upcoming long course season. June 9 - Las Vegas June 23 – Santa Clarita July 14 – Santa Barbara And… the Regional Championships are in the backyard – August 3-5 Mission Viejo Cool to see the new, old, and young swimmers walking out the gate with their 1st place blue, 2nd place red, and 3rd place white ribbons streaming back off bags in the Santa Ana Winds!
