FC Fights back in a tough loss to Landstown!

Posted by Justin Lee at Mar 13, 2017 10:41AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

On Friday night, the team’s second trip to the Sportsplex to play under the lights, was met against the Landstown Eagles. Entering the game, the Patriots would be without Crew Smith (midfield) and Ben Kittrell (Goalie). FC started the night strong scoring the first goal of the game to take a 1-0. However, a few missed opportunities and a few mistakes had the Patriots enter halftime trailing against the Eagles. Even through quite a few questionable and missed calls from the referees, the Patriots didn’t give up by the end of the game. By the time the final whistle was blown, Landstown was in the lead 13-11. We had great play from Junior Goalie Marco Farley who made save after save to keep us in the game, the Stephenson brothers of Jack & John who consistently caused turnovers and kept the ball on the offensive side, and our attackmen Blake Taylor, Nick Brown & Ben Patrick who kept finding holes in the defense to help put goals on the scoreboard. First Colonial is back on the field on Wednesday as we travel to Williamsburg at the Warhill Sports Complex Field 5 as we take on Lafayette High School!

Goals:
Nick Brown 1; Ben Patrick 1; Alden Russel 1; Blake Taylor 7; Cole Tydings 2.

Assists:
Nick Brown 2; Brandon Good 1; Bob Matson 1; John Stephenson 1; Matt Uroskie 1.

Patriots Fall Just Short Against Grassfied

Posted by Justin Lee at Mar 6, 2017 7:52PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Our Patriots traveled to PAAC tonight to face the Grassfield Grizzlies with two days of rest after a season opening win on Friday night. The kids had seemed more focussed and eager to earn another win on the season. The game had started with each exchanging the first 3 goals resulting in a 2-1 lead in favor of the Grizzlies. With a little bit of trouble with ball movement, and groundballs the team was down 11-3 at halftime. The team never let up, and came out of halftime motivated with fire in their eyes. The team battled in the second half and pulled back to within 2 goals with the Grizzlies up 14-12 with just under two minutes left. Unfortunately after a close shot, the time ran out with the Grizzlies winning 14-12 resulting in our season record to be 1-1.

Together the kids cheered each other on, and proved to everyone at the game that First Colonial was a new team and is determined to leave their mark on the season this year. I personally believe that if we had another two minutes in the game, we would have been able to finish the game with another win. But the kids proved just how good they can be this season, and I can say for the entire coaching staff of Coach Unger and Coach Taylor that we have high hopes for the team as we move on from tonight.

While it is EXTREMELY hard to point out individuals from an exceptional team performance, a few players played extremely well tonight! Junior Goalie Marco Farley stood his ground in the goal and withstood the barrage of shots and amassed numerous saves to keep us in the game! Senior Defenseman Jack Stephenson shut down some of Grassfield’s top offensive players causing multiple turnovers and giving the Grassfield offense a ton of problems. Junior Attackman Blake Taylor had led the offense with 9 goals, including 1 impressive shot which left the coaches speechless. While I may be biased since it was my position, I do feel that Senior Captain and Midfielder Crew Smith was an unsung hero tonight dominating the face-off X tonight and helping the team getting multiple extra offensive possessions.

But the teams entire effort should not be overlooked as it was the entire team who had achieved this effort! We have another week of practice before our Patriots take the field on Friday against the Landstown Eagles in the Sportsplex!

Our First Colonial Boy’s Lacrosse team began our season on Friday, playing under the lights at the Sportsplex taking on Bayside High School! For the second season in a row the Patriots began the season with a win, and for the second season in a row the Patriots had scored 17 goals in the first game of the season! It was a great team effort as everyone had contributed in the team’s win. We had controlled the possession for the majority of the first half, before a slight lapse in possession along with a few penalties had evened the time of possession in the second half. The defense was an anchor holding the Marlins to very few shots, and providing more opportunities for the offense to take control on the game. The highlight of the night would have to be the standout play from 3 of our freshmen players. Holden Roberts, Dennis Giuffre, and Caleb Knox combined for 5 of the team’s 17 goals. Holden Roberts had shown heart and hustle on the offensive half of the field and scored 3 goals, while Dennis and Caleb had both scored one goal each. In total, the Patriots had 8 different goal scorers in total, led by Junior Attackman Blake Taylor with 4 goals.

The Patriots return to the field tonight, 3/6/2017 at 7:20PM at the Princess Anne Athletic Complex Field #8, as we take on the Grassfield Grizzlies! Go Patriots!

Ben Patrick 2; Caleb Knox 1; Cole Tydings 3; Dennis Giuffre 1; Holden Roberts 3; John Stephenson 1; Nick Brown 2; Black Taylor 4.
