Shaler Scrimmage Review

Posted by PlumHS Wrestling at Nov 27, 2011 5:12AM PST ( 0 Comments )

The Plum Wrestlers attended the scrimmage at Shaler Area HS saturday. For many wrestlers it was their first HS team scrimmage. Overall I believe it was a positive experience. The teams conditioning looked pretty good in comparison to other teams but it can be improved. Everyone came away with things they need to improve upon and the coaches could see some things to work on as well.

The scrimmage began by splitting the teams into 4 groups: 106 to 120, 126 to 138, 145 to 160, and 170 to 285. Each group began with a drill session followed by a live takedown session fro two rounds. Next the groups worked on top/bottom live for two rounds. There was a break fro lunch at which the Shaler Boosters offered sandwiches, pasta, oranges, and drinks. After the break the groups wrestled two rounds of live matches.

Finally the groups participated in a takedown tournament. The finalists for the lightweights was Kemmerer and Medlang from Franklin Regional (very talented lightweights). Next, the finalists were Zanetta and a wrestler from Sharon (they always have one), in the middle weight group the finalists were John Marotto and Reilly Demharter (All Plum Final!), finally the heavyweights had Luke Fleck and an Oak Glenn kid (However Jake DiGuilio and Scott Heinz were in the final four – great job Scott).

The teams attending were Avonworth, Shaler, Sharon, Franklin Regional, Oak Glenn, Keystone Oaks, and Plum. Its was a little light this year but there was a good mix of talent to gauge your current level of preparation.

Next week the wrestlers will attend their second scrimmage at Chartiers Valley HS.

A quick reminder to wash your equipment after each scrimmage. Skin disease can be transferred from the environment, equipment or other wrestlers.
