Hi Parents and Runners!

Wow, get ready to drink from a fire hose. This email is LONG, but FULL of important details for upcoming events. Bear with me, Mustangs!

THIS WEEKEND: CASTRO VALLEY AND CLOVIS DETAILS
FS and JV who are not taking the SAT test (or otherwise already excused) are running the 2.1 mile course at Castro Valley. Bus loads at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, leaves Monte Vista promptly at 8.  JV runners may be driven by parents to the meet - with advance approval; they must arrive by 11 a.m.  All FS must ride the bus to the meet. Bus returns to MV at 1:30. Runners may be driven home with parents after their race. Additional Castro Valley Meet Info. Varsity will be in Fresno at the Clovis Invite (details mailed separately to varsity runners).

PHOTO DAY MOVING TO OCT 29 / NO OCT 14 CARBO LOAD
We are moving photo day to Wednesday, Oct. 29.  Too many conflicts with Homecoming events. Photo forms will be handed out at practice. All athletes are in the photo and must be in uniform (racing tops and shorts).  Nobody is required to buy any photos, nor is there a free photo. If you want a team or individual photo, you must pay for it by bringing the completed photo form, with payment, on photo day. With the photo day move to OCT 29 and the busy homecoming week, we are not going to hold a Carbo Load on Tuesday, Oct. 14 as originally indicated on the team calendar. We may do a Carbo Load before EBAL Championships if there is student and parent support for the idea (feel free to reply to me if you have an opinion).

EBAL CENTER MEET ON OCT 15
Get ready to rumble with our league rivals! The meet is right after school. Coaches will give students dismissal instructions. Parents: we still need 7 more volunteers for easy race day duties like helping out at the scorer's table or monitoring the course. Please sign up for a remaining slot. Thank you!

There will be only 4 races:
4:00  FS/JV Boys
4:35  FS/JV Girls
5:15  V Boys
5:45  V Girls

CROSS COUNTRY NIGHT AT THE FOOTBALL SNACK SHACK ON OCT 17

For those new to the team, every Monte Vista sports team takes a turn doing this, and this our night. A portion of the proceeds flow back to MVXC.  Please help us fulfill our obligation and make this night a success. Very fun event! Hang out with other XC parents and sell snacks at the game. Volunteer job starts at 6 pm and ends when the snack shack closes for the night. Bonus: volunteers don't pay at the gate for entrance to the football game. We need 6 more volunteers to sign up.

OVERNIGHT RELAY

It was a great night and the folks at Save Mt. Diablo will be grateful to receive help from some of the mountain's most frequent visitors: MVXC runners. We are still accepting donations, even if your athlete did not participate.  Please note: donations should be from the athlete (from their allowance, work earnings, etc), not the parents. We hope to turn over a check to SMD next week. Bring donations, cash or checks payable to MVXC, to practice.

UNIFORMS & TEAM APPAREL

All warmups, uniforms and team t-shirts are in and being handed out.

CHECK THE WEBSITE
Don't forget to check our team website for news, results, and photos. The Home page and Team News page are updated almost every week.

TEAM DONATIONS

Been meaning to donate but just haven't found a free moment? Click over to the webstore and make your team donation now, or mail a check made out to MVXC to Frances Farrell, Bookkeeper, Monte Vista High, 3131 Stone Valley Rd, Danville, CA 94526.

Stay cool this weekend and GO MUSTANGS!

Boys Recap:  The young Mustang boys team was not intimidated by the large field today, as they turn in a balanced team performance to finish 5th out of the 36 teams!   Led by sophomore Tristan Millers 16:01 time (5:10 / mile pace for the 5K race), the team had all 5 scorers in by 17:01 !  Miller was 10th overall, followed by Jr Tim Chrisman (20th, 16:10), Soph Daniel Maneloveg (57th, 16:44), Soph Nick Vomund (64th, 16:48) and Soph Ben Smiley (85th, 17:01).   Rounding out the team today were Jr Will Jones (156th, 17:51) and Soph Brendan Lau (162nd, 17:54).

The boys ran the fastest team time on the Stanford course since Monte Vista has kept track of team times via XC stats - even faster than Coach Bhavik's squad from 2007!   Well done guys!

Girls Recap:  The varsity girls team was once again invited into the special "seeded" race, lining up again many of the top teams from California as well as teams from Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Texas!   Soph Meredith Corda is the big story today, running a huge PR time of 18:06 (5K) to take 10th place overall!   Meredith's pace of 5:50 / mile is the fastest ever by a Monte Vista girl at this historic race.  Jr Brooke Starn is also sub 6 per mile today, finishing in 19th place.  Jr  Heidi Fuhriman (70th) and Sr Caroline Carey (73rd) are the two across the line.  Completing the squad today are Jr Emily Gines (84th),  Jr Madi Jeha (85th) and Fr Maddie Coney (97th).   The girls take 9th place out of the 18 seeded teams.  Their team time is also fastest in MV history.

Based on having a team in the seeded race, the Lady Mustangs were allowed to race a varsity B team in the D1 varsity race, and the girls took advantage of their opportunity by finishing 9th out of the 30 teams that toed the line!   Soph Cat Kiser continues to run strong, pacing the team with her 35th place finish.   The team was tightly packed today, with only 55 second between Cat and Sr Hannah Kim in the 5th position.   Also running for the Mustangs today were:  Fr Karalyn Sawchuk, Fr Alex Wilson, Soph Morgan Dowling,  Hannah, Fr Audrey Coney and Sr Alexis Bailie.

2014 Overnight Relay - RESULTS

Posted by Mike Davis at Sep 22, 2014 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Oct 5:  It's 114.48 miles for the team at the Overnight Relay!   The 2014 team presses hard to the end, winds up 100 meters farther than last years group!   Funds are raised for Save Mount Diablo (you can still bring your donation to practice this week).  Crazy "PJ's" are the rule as the team celebrates on a warm night.   Results can be found on the Overnight Relay page.   A big thank you to the Lambertsons for organizing the food table and grill (including all the meat), the Rovners for the pizza, and all the parents who helped us run this special event.  Great job team!

From the opening mile run by Senior Captain Caroline Carey, to the mad dash sprint to the finish by Junior Captain Tim Chrisman, the 2014 edition of the Overnight Relay was special indeed.  The 114.48 miles was just a part of it (#2 all time - and 100 meters ahead of last years team).   Good food  - healthier than most years, warm weather, games, song, and of course, a giant "pajama party" made for a festive evening.   The team took a break from the hard work and weekend races, by showing off their fitness level - one mile at a time.

Countless mile PR's were set during the night.   The team pace of 6:17 was amazing too!

Results, as tracked by our great parent volunteers, are in the handout below.

Great job team - Now get some sleep!!
