News and Announcements

PARK CITY, UT - Several Multisports OC athletes participated in the USAT Regional Championship at Jordanelle Lake on August 25, 2007. The weather was spectaular for the race athough the nearly 7,300 ft altitude made the course a bit tougher. The water temp was in the 70's for the glassy swim. The bike was amazingly flat and fast out and back. The run was a 2 loop course with some fun trails

Mark Disman was the highest team finisher placing 3rd in 60-64. Michael Collins was 4th in 40-44, Anna Herbst was 4th in 30-34, Julia Julison was 7th in 40-44, Art Sosa 15th in 35-39 and Joe Higuera 24th in 35-39.

The sad news of the race was Brandy Bounds not getting to participate when the airlines lost her bike.

Here is a report on the Imperial Beach Tri from Bill Langstaff

Hi Mike--I don't know if you got my message---I did the Imperial Beach Sprint Tri Sunday and got 2nd in my age group----the swim took forever---waves and current from Hurricane Dean---but I got thru it and flew thru the bike and had an okay run---1:10---I wanted to break an hour---there is always a goal----your clinic at your house reduced my transition time in half---thanks a million.

Here is what MSOC member Joe Higuera said after getting his bike:

I would like to offer a testimonial about the Guru time trial bike that I just purchased from Hank at Edge Cyclesports per the suggestion of Coach Michael Collins. I got my bike just a few days before a 4 day bike camp in conjunction with the Solvang Century.

For starters, the bike and particularly the custom fit make for the most comfortable experience you could possibly ever expect on a bike. Being on the aero bars for hours is no longer a chore, but enjoyable.  I have suffered from lower back and hip injuries and every bike I have ever trained on or ridden only served to aggravate those injuries; the amazing thing about my new Guru is that my body has never felt better after every ride, even the century! I attribute that to the custom fit and amazingly smooth pedal stroke that is easy to achieve on a bike of this quality.

I would not only highly recommend this bike to anyone that cycles or tris, but would tell them that the custom fit is absolutely essential to achieving maximum comfort, enjoyment and performance. You will not realize what this bike can do for you until you have it, and once you have it, you will never be able to go back to what you were riding before. It just may be all about the bike!

LAGUNA NIGUEL - Multisports Orange County and Fleet Feet Sports in Laguna Niguel hosted pro triathlete Will Kelsey for a mountain bike ride and Xterra racing clinic on August 2, 2007.

The group started with a 2 lap ride through Aliso Woods Canyon on Coyote Trail and Dripping Cave. The first lap was easy and the 2nd lap fast. Then the group headed over to the store where Will shared his knowledge on training & racing as well as recommendations on clothing and equipment. 2XU was also on hand to discuss their products.

SOLANO BEACH, CA - Numerous Multisports OC and Nova Masters members participated in the 2007 Solano Beach Sprint Triathlon. The weather was perfect for the 400m swim - 15k bike - 5k run. The water was in the low 70's which was warm enough to go without a wetsuit, but most still need due to the speed increase with the suit on. Light cloud cover kept the air temperature a comfortable 70 degrees as well. Former Nova swimmer Kyle Hughes took the overall title with a dominating run performance. Coach Michael Collins won the 40-44 age group and had the 2nd fastest overall amateur time (6 seconds slower that the 20-24 age group winner). Shelby "I need to train" Stanger was the top female team finisher in 1:00:53. Kerry Deputy SMOKED all the Athena women and came within 30 seconds of taking the 45-49 age group as well with a 1:03:51. PARENTS RETURN TO RACING New father Thorin Southworth showed he can still race pretty fast in the sprints by going 30 seconds faster than last year despite adding sleep deprivation and dirty diaper changing to his poor diet, too much drinking, and inconsistent training regime. Allison Collins made her return to triathlon after a 3 year hiatus due to pregnancy and raising future swimming and triathlon great Brooke Riley Collins who is approaching 2 years old. CHANGING OF THE RODGERS GUARD Tyler Rodgers finally broke though as the fastest of the Rodgers Clan by taking down uncle Robert Robot Rodgers by over a minute, and smoking his dad Joel Mole Rodgers by nearly 9 minutes. HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW OLD HE IS AND CAN'T TELL TIME - BUT HE'S NOT COLOR BLIND! Newbie Art Rice paid a "stupid tax" when he had to do the swim leg TWICE after leaving with the 30-34 orange caps - 40 minutes before his 40-49 men wave start (which also had orange caps). At least he didn't have to do the run to the transition area twice as several team-mates were on hand to greet him at the waters edge to let him know he was going to have to do it again. "Oh well, I need the practice anyway" was his positive minded response. Special thanks to Dr. Chris Barney of Performance Chiropractic for coming out to the race to give our athletes some Active Release Techniques (ART) treatments before and after the race.
