PORTLAND, OR - Conditions were ideal for the 2007 USAT Olympic Distance Nationals and 2007 & 2008 ITU World Championships Qualifier. The competition was EXTREMELY high caliber and times were impressive despite the difficult hilly course (no flat spots to be found on the bike or run). First time Nationals participants included Steven Owen, Kerry Deputy, and Mark Disman (who already qualified for the 2008 Worlds at the Western Regional Championships in Bakersfield). Deputy surprised herself and the rest of the team by winning the 40+ Athena catagory. Coach Michael Collins posted the fastest team time of 2:09:14 for 14th place in the 40-44 which was good enough to qualify for the 2007 World Championships in Hamburg Germany. However, he turned down the spot due to family obligations and coaching responsibilities. Results HERE. Photos from the event HERE. USAT Hightlights from the race HERE.image
PORTLAND, OR - The USAT Aquathlon Nationals (750m swim + 5k Run) took place two days before the 2007 USAT Olympic Distance Nationals and World Championships qualifier. Two Multisports OC members participated. Coach Michael Collins took the 40-44 age group title and was 5th overall and Kerry Deputy took 4th in 45-49. The conditions were quite wet as it rained pretty hard before and after the race, but not too much during. Since there was no cycling involved it did not have much effect on the racing conditions. Kevin Brown drove up the day before and raced it also. Super fun and a long race for me! I think you also know that this was the first year for this spot and it held up to the Xterra standards. Lots of climbing on the bike. LOTS! The run was all up and then all down while over logs, rocks and you name it. So much fun! :-) ====================================================================================================
