NOVA MASTERS CLAIM 4TH SPMA CHAMPIONSHIP IN A ROW!
THOUSAND OAKS, CA - The Nova Masters Swim Team won its 4th concecutive Southern Pacific Masters Swimming Championship at the 2008 Long Course SPMA Championships held August 1-3, 2008 at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. In addition the team set a total of 18 new team records - 10 individual and 8 relays.
29 Nova Masters swimmers participated in the meet in what turned out to be a very close battle with the Ojai Masters. Both teams had about 30 participants and arrpoximately 150 splashes in the meet going in. So it was expected to be a hotly contested battle which often comes down to relay performances. The Novas accepted the challenge and came through swimming a total of 35 relays and winning 30 of them and taking 2nd in the other 5.
Six Nova swimmers took home the high point trophy in their age group including Jenna Natalizio 18-24, Heather Martinez 30-34, Ahelee Sue Osborn 50-54, Jim Riddle 45-49, Don Cholodenko 50-54, and Hank Greenberg 60-64.
Head Coach Michael Collins was very pleased with the teams performance. "Once again our swimmers stepped up to swim beyond what we expected. Several of our swimmers swam the full program of 7 events plus up to 7 relays for a total of 14 swims in just 2 days! We needed every swim to ensure the victory as the battle with Ojai was very close. We have been on the winning side of these close races several times and I hope we can continue the streak for years to come."
"We were also thankful for the swimmers who came out to meet with their familes. Some are even getting them to compete too! It was great to see Lee Jacobs come out and get his 68 year old dad, Ed, to compete for the first time in over 40 years. Ed played a significant role in our relays performances as well as scoring individual points."
