Little Stars To Enjoy Big Weekend!

Three teams of 7- to 9-year-olds from Clairemont Hilltoppers are set to play in the fun postseason "Little Stars" tournament being hosted by Hilltoppers at Cadman Park, June 14-17.

We'll have at least one CHLL team playing at 5:30 p.m. both Thursday and Friday evening, and then our teams will be in action all day on Saturday and Sunday. See the "Handout" below for a complete schedule for the tournament.

Teams from all over our district will competing over the weekend, and we are going to need TONS of volunteers to make this happen. Every game needs an umprie and announcer, and we also need people to staff our snack bar and t-shrt table. If you have a couple of hours on any of these four days, please contact Ken Cicalo • KenC1313@yahoo.com or 619-889-9216 to get signed up. If you still have volunteer hours to complete, this will be an easy way to do it.

Come out and support our kids in their first tournament experience!

Our five Majors Division teams spent the Memorial Dayweekend in San Bernardino, at the Western Region headquarters, playing on the same ballfield that will be used in August to select the West and Northwest Region representatives for the Little League World Series.

Arriving on Friday evening, the teams enjoyed a barbecue for players and their families at the complex, then went out to the stadium and enjoyed a game between our Rays and Giants under the lights.

Players spent both Friday and Saturday nights in the same dorms used by the players for the Regional tournaments each summer. This was a great bonding opportunity for our kids, who also had a chance to hang out at the pool and in the cafeteria.

On Saturday, five ballgames were played in the morning and evening, with the middle of the day enjoyed poolside for most of the kids. On Saturday afternoon, there was an exciting Home Run Derby contest, where Gavin Rasmussen (1st place), Jacob Keltner (2nd place) and Brandon Hubert (3rd place) walked away with top honors.

Sunday morning included two more ballgames, and all of the kids went home exhausted, but with special memories of the weekend.

This was also a great opportunity for families of our players to spend the weekend together, and parents, grandparents and siblings had great fun at the BBQ, hanging out at the ballpark, and visiting at both the regional complex and their hotels. A few brave souls even attempted a round of golf on Saturday afternoon.

Many thanks to West Region Director (and former Hilltopper) Jim Gerstenslager and his regional staff for hosting our kids and giving them such a rich experience. This was our sixth trip to San Bernardino, and quite possibly the best. We are hopeful to have the opportunity to do this again next year.

Thanks also to Ken Britt, Roger Otterson, Anthony Valentine, Bill Britt, Andre Wagner, Ken Waldichuk, Aaron Willis and Les Van Cleave for making the trip and umpiring all the games, and also to Kelly Grant and Martin Lopez, who staffed the microphone and announced all the ballgames. And finally, thanks to all the parents who made the trip, helped organize events, kept the kids hydrated, chaperoned in the dorms, and made this a weekend our kids won't ever forget.

Coming March 11...

Posted by Ken Cicalo at Feb 23, 2009 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Tons of Fun at Our Fundraiser Dinner!

This year's Annual Fundraiser Dinner will be 0n March 11 at the former Coastal Crave Restaurant (3065 Clairemont Dr.).

Every year, over 100 Hilltoppers parents, coaches, friends and families come together for an evening of socializing, music, and raising a little money, all while enjoying a delicious dinner and fun night out for our adults.

As always, there will be tons of great items for our raffles, and live and silent auctions. There are always items like dinner certificates, hotel stays, sports memorabilia, tickets to local attractions, themed baskets and much more. Tickets are just $20 per person, and are going fast. They will be on sale as long as they last on Saturday at Cadman Park.

This is our single biggest fundraiser of the year, and very important to keeping our fees the lowest in town, but it can only reach those levels with the support of our donors, organizers and families. We are asking everyone to help find items for our raffles and auctions. If you have something to donate (or know a company who will), please contact our Event Chair Michelle Jennings at dubdub98@yahoo.com.

Don't miss this fun night out!
