Little League Day

Posted by Ken Cicalo at May 1, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Sunday, April 29
at Petco Park

This year's annual Clairemont Hilltoppers trip to the Padres game promises to be tons of fun once again.

If you bought tickets for this game through your team, be sure to arrive early, as all players and coaches can participate in a pregame parade on the field at Petco. To participate, line up on 7th Avenue between K and L Streets starting at 11 a.m. Only players and coaches are allowed in the parade, and each one must have a game ticket. Parade starts at 12 noon, but anyone who wants to walk must be lined up by 11:45. See the "Handout" below this article for all the details on participating in the parade.

Then, get to your seats by 12:30, as our very own Hilltopper Jade Barth (age 11) has been selected to throw out a first pitch on Sunday! The 1 p.m. game against the New York Mets may see an appearance from a Clairemont kid, pitcher Corey Oswalt, who played many years for Clairemont Mesa Little League, Madison High School, and was just called up to the Mets on April 21.

Every Padres Sunday home game is also a Kid's Day, with special activities for kids in the Park in the Park area beyond left field. After the game, all kids 14 and under can also go down on the field to run the bases. See you there!

Our champion teams in the Minors, Majors and Juniors each well represented our league in Tournament of Champions play, which matched first-place teams from each league in our 13-league District 32.

Our Majors division champion Angels kicked off the postseason with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over University City in the first round of the TOC on Wednesday, June 18. They jumped out to an early lead in their next game, on Saturday, June 21. Unfortunately, they couldn't quite hang on in the end, and dropped a dramatic 4-3 decision to Mira Mesa West.

Our Minors division champion Cardinals were eliminated in their opening round game against Pt. Loma, on Thursday, June 19 at Mission Bay Little League.

Finally, our Juniors division champion White Sox lost a nailbiter, 5-4 vs. Presidio on June 19, in their tournament game at Mira Mesa Little League.

Congratulations to these three teams, who each earned their berths in the TOC through hard-fought triumphs in our league playoffs.

Steve Conner Added to Hilltoppers Hall of Fame

Posted by Ken Cicalo at Mar 3, 2008 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

One of the highlights of this year's Opening Day ceremonies, was the announcement that longtime coach Steve Conner has been added to the Clairemont Hilltoppers Hall of Fame.

Originated as part of the 50th Anniversary celebration two years ago, the Hilltoppers Hall of Fame recognizes those who have made tremendous contributions to our Little League program. In his well over 20 years of involvement at Clairemont Hilltoppers, Steve has not only coached multiple generations of young ballplayers, but played other vital roles as a volunteer in fundraising, on the board of directors, and in leading the 50th anniversary committee.

As the 18th member inducted into the Hall of Fame, Steve's name now joins the charter members on our permanent plaque in the scorebooth building. There at Opening Day to welcome him into the Hilltoppers Hall of Fame were current members Bill Salonius, Dave Pursel, Ron Conkle, Jim Gerstenslager and Mike Van Cleave.

Congratulations Steve on a well-deserved honor.

Constitution Vote on Opening Day!

Posted by Ken Cicalo at Feb 24, 2008 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

During our Opening Day ceremonies, General Membership will be asked to vote on and approve revisions to our league Constitution and By-Laws. Per Little League regulations, the Constitution and By-Laws must be re-approved every two years.

The document in the handout below has been reviewed and modified by a committee of board members, then approved by the Clairemont Hilltoppers Board of Directors.

Please take a few minutes to download and read through this documents. It spells out exactly how your league is organized and operated. If you have any questions about the Constitution, By-Laws or this process, please contact any board member.
