10-11yr District Team:

Wed July 22

In the second game of the double-elimination portion of the tourney, Wickford defeated Warwick American 10-4 at home on Wednesday 22 July.  DJ Kennedy pitched 2 innings and Matt Boelter pitched 4 innings.  The team's offense continued its hot streak with a total of 10 hits.  Hitting highlights included Matt Boelter (3-4, 4 RBI's including a 3-run homer in the 1st inning, Dean Streich (2-5), and Bobby Daly who belted a 2-run homer in the 2nd inning.  Hats off to Bobby Daly who kept the Warwick batters off balance all night by calling a phenomenal game
from behind the plate. 

The team is now 5-0 in the tourney and their next game
is on Monday 27 July.

2009 9-10 District All Stars: 

On Saturday, July 11, the Wickford 9 - 10 District All Star Team lost to Warwick National, 5 - 4, in 7 innings.  In a hard fought battle that saw several lead changes, Matt Van Dyne held National to 3 runs over 4 1/3 innings.  Andrew Sarazen, Lucas Deslauriers, Chad Beliveau and Matt Van Dyne had hits for Wickford. Wickford has now been eliminated from the playoffs.  Congratulations to all the boys on a great season.

Wickford 2 defeats Exeter/WestGreenwich 24-0

Wickford started off the Narragansett 11/12 Friendship tournament on a high note.

Description: Wickford started off the Narragansett 11/12 Friendship tournament on a high note.  The bats came alive early as Wickford put up 12 runs in the first inning.   In that inning, every player reached base in their first at bat.  The big hits in the first inning were Stephen Maybach’s grand slam and Matthew Viens’ 3-run home run.  The hits continued for the remainder of the game as Wickford scored at least two runs in each inning, with Nathan Mathews adding another grand slam home run in the 3rd inning, this one an inside-the-park home run.  In a total team effort, every player scored at least one run.   On the mound, Nick Gartland and Patrick Maybach combined for a one hitter and allowed only 3 base runners.  The Wickford defense supported them beautifully making no errors in the 4 inning outing.   

 

Wickford’s next game is on Tuesday, 21 July at 5 PM.  They will play East Greenwich at Sprague Field in Narragansett.

The team defeated Coventry 7-0 on Sunday 12 July.  Liam Darcy started the game
and pitched 2 1/3 innings and Matt Boelter pitched 3 2/3 innings to finish the
game.  They both combined for a no-hit shutout.  Chris Guenev drove a solo homer
over the right field fence in the 1st inning.  Matt Boelter blasted a solo homer
off the right field score board in the 6th inning.  Both Bobby Daly and Matt
Boelter went 2-3 on the day.  Both Bobby Hanley and DJ Kennedy hit doubles.  The
team is now 3-0 in pool play.

11yr old District Team defeats Chariho 13-1

11yr old District:  

The team defeated Chariho 13-1 in 4 innings on Friday 17 July.  Cody Tompkins
pitched 3 innings and DJ Kennedy pitched a scoreless 4th inning to close the
game.  The team’s defense was stellar with some key plays by Peter Webber (LF),
Brian Farrell (1B), and Dean Streich (CF).  The offense was hot with a total of
15 hits and no strikeouts.  Top hitters were Dean Streich (4-5, 6 RBI’s)
including a 3-run homer over the center field fence in the 2nd inning, Matt
Boelter (3-3), and Bobby Hanley (2-2). 

The team is now 4-0 in the tourney and they play Warwick American on 22 July.
