SO WHO ARE THERE MYSTERIOUS DIABLOS?

Posted by Mike Davis at Sep 25, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

On Saturday, Sept 25th, before the varsity teams had even boarded the bus to Stanford, a group of dedicated runners met at Macedo Ranch to battle the demanding BBQ Terrace run.  This is the first and hardest segment of the Mt Diablo challenge run done every August.

Conditions were perfect, and the gang made the climb in epic fashion!

But who are they???

JV & FS Girls Coach - Laurey Davis

Posted by Mike Davis at Sep 25, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Laurey Davis - JV & Frosh Soph Girls Coach
email:  dipseafan@aol.com

Personal Bio:  I came to running later in life than most.   Attending the "other" Monta Vista in the late 70's,  there wasn't even a girls cross country team. I began running in graduate school and joined Diablo Road Runners in 1987.  This is when the serious running began.

My favorite distance to run has been the 5K and I have had some success as an age group winner.  My absolute favorite race is the Dipsea, a very aggressive course that takes from Mill Valley to Stinson beach.  I have done 8 marathons, qualified for Boston Marathon 7 times and run it 4 times, with my Personal Best time in Boston of 3:27.
In 1998 I opened my first running store in Pleasanton.  2 years later I opened a second location in Pleasant Hill.    My experience having owned the running store is something I hope to share with the Monte Vista Cross Country Athletes.  During my 9.5 years in Pleasanton I gained knowledge in proper shoe fitting, footbeds, orthodics, injury prevention, training, and getting to know the high school age runner.   Selling my business in 2007 was a hard decision for me.
Running has been my passion once I was allowed to pursue it, but I never got to see my kids!  I am now a substitute teacher in the school district and by helping with the team I am reminded how great it is to run in the hills and with a group of such enthusiastic kids.

Cross Country ASB Officers named

Posted by Mike Davis at Sep 22, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Like all sports teams at Monte Vista, the Cross Country team is organized as a formal Associated Student Body club (ASB).  As such, the team has club officers who meet to approve the budget and review expenses.

This year the coaches have selected a slate of Seniors to handle the club officer duties.  They are:

President Paulo Rigo, Vice President Victoria Steffan, Sectretary Felix Amirfathi and Treasurer Ben Wible.

On September 22nd, they held their first meeting to approve the team budget, discuss current events such as spirit captains, and approve adding 2007 and 2008 to the XC Stats web site so that all seniors and juniors would see their whole career (2009 and 2010 came with our initial subscription).

Congrats!

Tuesday, Sept 7th

2.0 miles.  Hilly
Grade level races
Great weather greeted the runners from 22 area schools at the 27th edition of the Monte Vista Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.  Over 1000 runners competed in 8 grade/gender level races!  While no formal team score were kept, that didn't stop some fast racing up front and some spirited competition among new and veteran runners alike.
Castro Valley had the fastest individual runners today, with Sr Kelsey Santisteban winning the girls race in a new course record time of 12:23.19 over the difficult 2 mile course while fellow CV Senior Ben Eversole run a very quick 10:47.82 to take the boys crown.

Castro Valley's Kelsey Santisteban crests the Eliminator

Individual race winners included:
Frosh Boys: Aidan Goltra, Las Lomas 11:30.00
Frosh Girls: Sophie Hartley, Granada  12:37.06
Soph Boys: Adler Falkner, Acalanes  11:07.98
Soph Girls:  Kelli Berge, Acalanes  12:57.66
Junior Boys: Parker Deuel, San Ramon Valley  11:02.78

Senior Boys:  Ben Eversole, Castro Valley  10:47.82
Senior Girls:  Kelsey Santisteban, Castro Valley  12:23.19 * CR

In the unofficial team results, based on combining all the boys and girls races, Granada was the strongest on the girls side, with Acalanes and Monte Vista next in line.  For the boys, Amador and Las Lomas were in a virtual dead heat, with host Monte Vista only a couple points off the pace.

Individual race results can be found in the handout below.  Unofficial team scores included.  Also - a combined boys, and combined girls race result pdf is also provided.
