2011 OVERNIGHT RELAY - RED WHITE AND BLUE ROCKS THE NIGHT!

Posted by Mike Davis at Sep 10, 2011 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The largest squad to date takes on the greatest MVXC traditional of them all - The Overnight Relay!   For the first time, no runner ran more than one mile in order to give everyone a chance to carry the baton a mile.  Despite not having the fastest runners handle multiple miles, the team still breaks 100 miles - completing 102.2 before the 12 Hour Clock counted down to zero.

Red White and Blue was the theme of the night.  Rewarding the decision to move the event to an earlier date, the night was warm and a full moon provided extra light for the dedicated runners.

The team filled a pick-up truck full of items for the Food Bank of Contra Costa County - the designated charity for this years event.

The team took time at midnight (after the lights were restarted) to pause and reflect upon the anniversary of 9/11.  Several team members spoke after a few words by Coach Davis and the team listened to a replay of a moving speech to the nation by then President Bush.

After the usual field pickup (thanks for those skittles...), everyone was out of the stadium before 8am.

Great job Mustangs!

Thank you to ALL of the teams who participated in this 28th running of the Monte Vista Invite.  Despite the hot weather, we had a number of really solid performances across all of the divisions.

In unofficial scoring, the Granada Girls team, and the San Ramon Valley Boys team had the fastest "team times" on the day (see Combined race results in the files below).

Results of each grade level race can be found in the handout below.

Congrats to our fastest runners on the day: Sr Carina Novell of Granada and Sr Trevor Fuhiman of Monte Vista.
