Head Coach Mandee Starn
COACH MANDEE STARN - 5th Season
Coach Mandee is a lifelong runner who grew up in Montara, California and graduated Half Moon Bay High School after spending a year abroad studying in Sweden. Gå framöver och ber henne att säga något på svenska! Back in California, she attended the University of California at Davis where she received her bachelor’s degree in Rhetoric and Communication Management before completing her master’s degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology at California State University Hayward. She currently works at San Ramon Regional Medical Center as a licensed Speech Language Pathologist.
While she did not run for her high school or college teams, Coach Mandee has wasted no time since then having competed in approximately a hundred races ranging in distance from 5K to the marathon, including 3 Boston Marathon appearances. She has PRs (both set as a master’s runner!) of 20:08 for 5K (2011) and 3:19:44 for the marathon (2012).
Prior to coaching at Monte Vista, she assisted with the local CYO cross country and track & field teams as well as local USATF youth club Oak Hill Racing. She enjoys sharing her passion for the sport with younger runners and hopes to help them establish a healthy lifestyle while learning important life lessons such as goal setting and how to deal with the ups and downs that are inevitable along the way. Her three daughters, Callie (’13) and Brooke (’16), and Annie (’19) have all run or are still running with MVXC. Brooke is currently running for Harvard in her freshman season.
