Invaders Eliminate Unknown Talent 13-6

Posted by Larry Mills at Apr 2, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The Invaders bounced back with intensity after being routed 24-0 the previous day by True Playaz. The defense, led by LB Ricardo Williams, willed the Invaders to victory. Rushers Lawrence Upson, Greg Kelly and Marty Jones provided outstanding pressure all game. Cornerbacks Tony Jeter and Derrick Williams shut down the Unknown Talent receivers with their aggressive play and superb coverage. Unknown Talent's only touchdown came on a questionable call to give them a 6-0 lead. QB Mike Hawkins responded by scoring the Invaders first touchdown on a 5-yard run. On the Invaders' last drive, Hawkins reversed field, scrambled to his right and hit TE Lionel Anderson for long gain to the 1 yard line. Hawkins then sprinted left for the game winning touchdown. Hawkins also ran in the 1-point conversion. Unable to score a touchdown on their next possession, the Unknown Talent's fate was sealed 13-6.

Jaguars Narrowly Escape Invaders 8-6

Posted by Larry Mills at Apr 2, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The Invaders continued to play against the Jaguars with the same intensity exhibited in their game against the Unknown Talent. After the two teams clawed back and forth, the Jaguars were finally able to score on an under rout to one of their speedy receivers. The play was executed perfectly, including excellent blocking. Invaders' CB Derrick Williams had a chance to stop the play inside the 40, but was unable to execute a flag pull. Again, a reminder to the Invaders that flag pulling is one of the fundamentals they must improve at. The Jags 2-point conversion kick was true and they took an 8-0 lead. The Invaders fought back strong and scored on a 15 yard stop pattern on the left sidelines to WR Matthew Anderson. The Invaders decided to play for 2 on the conversion, after receiving the benefit of a 5 yard penalty against the Jags. QB Michael Hawkins was unable to hit a wide open George Wyatt in the back of the end zone for what would have been the tieing score. The Jags remained ahead 8-6. The Invaders defense stepped up big on the Jags' next drive and got the ball back for the offense. But, the Jags made a strong defensive stand and the Invaders were unable to sustain a drive and provide the winning score. After playing pathetic against True Playaz in the first game of this Clinton Spring NIT, the Invaders rebounded and finished the tournament with intense play. The tournament provided excellent experience for the Invaders, which will only make them better.

Invaders Crush Bruins: 28-7

Posted by Larry Mills at Mar 19, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Invaders' Safety Ricardo Williams came up with an interception on the Bruins' first possession. However, the interception was called back because of an interference call against CB Derrick Williams. The Bruins capitalized on the penalty and scored on a 40 yard fly route on the very next play. The 1-point conversion pass play was completed to TE Cortez and the Bruins took an early 7-0 lead. After consecutive dropped passes by WR Matthew Anderson and TE Lionel Anderson, QB Joseph Chaney Jr., completed 4 consecutive passes to move the ball into Bruins' territory. Arthur Anderson scored from 22 yards out on a backs release play. The 2-point conversion kick attempt by George Wyatt was no good and the Bruins held on to a 7-6 lead. The Invaders defense, led by defensive captain Tracy Brown, stiffened and forced the Bruins to punt on their next possession. The Bruins also forced the Invaders to punt. On the Bruins' next possession, Invaders Rookie CB Tony Jeter intercepted a pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown. Aaron Kinchen missed the 2-point conversion kick and the Invaders settled for a 12-7 lead. The Bruins were forced to punt again and QB Chaney orchestrated a textbook drive, which included three key passes to Center Roland Knight. Chaney capped the drive with a 5 yard shuttle pass to BB Danny Gay. George Wyatt converted the 2-point conversion kick and the Invaders took a 20-7 lead. CB Jeter intercepted another pass and returned it to the Bruins 21 yard line. On the next play QB Chaney tossed a 21 yard touchdown to BB Gay. Wyatt converted a 2-point conversion kick and the Invaders led 28-7. CB Derrick Williams intercepted a pass on the Bruins' next possession to seal the victory for the Invaders. Again, the Invaders were led by their bruising blocking backs; Aaron Kinchen, Paul Berry and Arthur Anderson. Also, the rushing unit consisting of Marty Jones, Greg Kelly and William Foster provided outstanding pressure all game, which led to turnovers. Rookie CB Jeter continued to show excellent potential. Rookie Safety Wayne Benson, Lionel Anderson, Ricardo Williams, Matthew Anderson and Tracy Brown provided inspired play. The Invaders demonstrated their strong depth by playing an excellent game without talented players; QB Michael Hawkins, R/BB Herbert (Junnie) Collins, S/TE Jay Drewery, R Lawrence Upson and WR Taurus McGhee.

Horsemen Stomp Invaders: 24-6

Posted by Larry Mills at Mar 12, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The Invaders scored on their first drive when QB Michael Hawkins hit WR Joseph Chaney on a 40 yard post play. However, the conversion attempt was intercepted and returned for a score by the Horsemen. Defensively, rushers Lawrence Upson, Marty Jones, Greg Kelly and Wayne Benson pressured the Horsemen's QB effectively all game. Because of the pressure, early in the first half, Invaders' CB Derrick Williams intercepted a pass to give the Invaders possession of the ball with excellent field position. However, the Invaders turned the ball over again. The momentum turned and the Horsemen went on to rout the Invaders 24-6. The Invaders kept their heads up and went on to defeat the Black Falcons 22-14 in their next game of the day at Wheatley Field.
