Jaguars Narrowly Escape Invaders 8-6

Posted by Larry Mills on Apr 02 2005 at 04:00PM PST
The Invaders continued to play against the Jaguars with the same intensity exhibited in their game against the Unknown Talent. After the two teams clawed back and forth, the Jaguars were finally able to score on an under rout to one of their speedy receivers. The play was executed perfectly, including excellent blocking. Invaders' CB Derrick Williams had a chance to stop the play inside the 40, but was unable to execute a flag pull. Again, a reminder to the Invaders that flag pulling is one of the fundamentals they must improve at. The Jags 2-point conversion kick was true and they took an 8-0 lead. The Invaders fought back strong and scored on a 15 yard stop pattern on the left sidelines to WR Matthew Anderson. The Invaders decided to play for 2 on the conversion, after receiving the benefit of a 5 yard penalty against the Jags. QB Michael Hawkins was unable to hit a wide open George Wyatt in the back of the end zone for what would have been the tieing score. The Jags remained ahead 8-6. The Invaders defense stepped up big on the Jags' next drive and got the ball back for the offense. But, the Jags made a strong defensive stand and the Invaders were unable to sustain a drive and provide the winning score. After playing pathetic against True Playaz in the first game of this Clinton Spring NIT, the Invaders rebounded and finished the tournament with intense play. The tournament provided excellent experience for the Invaders, which will only make them better.
