The key play of the drive was a 40 yard scamper by the QB, when he was able to get outside the Invaders’ undisciplined rush. We R One capped the drive with a QB dive from the 1 yard line. The 2-point conversion kick attempt was wide left. The Invaders responded with another scoring drive. Chaney completed passes to WR Anthony Weekes, Wyatt and Blocking Back Aaron Kinchen. Invaders Defeat Braves 18-12

Posted by Larry Mills at Sep 17, 2005 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Invaders improved their record to 2-0 and moved up to 3rd in the South Division of the SMFFL with an 18-12 victory over the Braves. The Invaders forced the Braves to punt on their first drive. The Invaders’ first drive was also halted, when the Braves intercepted a lazy pass attempt from QB Joseph Chaney Jr., to BB Mike Hawkins and returned it 80 yards for the game’s first touchdown. The Braves’ 1-point conversion pass attempt was unsuccessfully, when CB Derrick Williams (D-Nice) nearly intercepted it. The Invaders responded and struck back on their second possession. Chaney began the drive with a 15 yard pass to TE Danny Gay. On second down, Chaney completed a 55 pass to WR Anthony Weekes to tie the score at 6-6. The 1-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful. The Invaders stopped the Braves on their second drive when D-Nice intercepted an overthrown pass and returned it to the 50 yard line. After completing short passes to Hawkins and BB Aaron Kinchen, Chaney followed their bruising blocks and ran the ball in for a 10 yard touchdown to give the Invaders a 12-6 lead at the half. The 2-point conversion kick attempt was unsuccessful, when Chaney snapped the ball into the dirt. On their first possession of the second half, the Invaders drove the ball to the Braves’ 10 yard line, but were unable to score. The Braves took advantage of the Invaders’ inability to put them away and drove the ball 90 yards to tie the score at 12-12. The Braves’ conversion attempt was no good. Chaney returned the ensuing kickoff to the Invaders’ 42 yard line. On second down, Chaney completed a 40 yard pass to TE Tim Black. Chaney completed another pass to Hawkins, who took the ball down to the Braves 1 yard line. On second and goal, Chaney followed Kinchen and Hawkins into the end zone to put the Invaders up 18-12. Again, the Invaders’ 1-point conversion attempt was no good. The Invaders have to find a way to be more successful on their conversion attempts. With less than 20 seconds left, the Invaders kicked the ball off in play, which provided the Braves with an opportunity for a return. The Braves took advantage of the Invaders’ ridiculous mistake and executed an outstanding 95 yard kickoff return, which consisted of a lateral, for a touchdown. Fortunately, for the Invaders, the lateral was forward and therefore illegal. With one second left, Rusher Greg Kelley batted down the Braves’ last pass attempt to secure the victory for the Invaders. The Invaders defense, led by rushers Ricardo Williams, William Foster, Greg Kelley, Tracy Brown, Reggie Washington and Lawrence Upson II showed improvement. Invaders' Scoring Summary - 18 6 - Touchdown - Weekes - Pass from Chaney 6 - Touchdown - Chaney - Run 6 - Touchdown - Chaney - Run Interceptions - 2 1 - J. Foster 1 - D. Williams

Invaders Slip By Phat Butter 19-18

Posted by Larry Mills at Sep 10, 2005 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Invaders barely eked out a one point victory, 19-18, against Phat Butter. QB Joseph Chaney Jr. led the Invaders to a score on their first drive. The big play of the drive was a 46 yard completion to BB Danny Gay. Chaney also completed a pass to BB Michael Hawkins to advance the ball inside Butter’s 10 yard line. Chaney capped the drive with a 5 yard touchdown pass to TE Tim Black. The 2-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful. The Invaders struggled defensively, allowing Butter to score off of broken plays. On Butter’s first drive, they scored on a roll left pass play, when the ball was tip and caught for a touchdown. Their conversion attempt was unsuccessful. Basically, the only success the Invaders had defensively was stopping conversion attempts. The Invaders responded immediately on the next drive with a 55 yard pass play on a screen to WR Jade Foster. On the next play Chaney rolled right and ran the ball down to the 5 yard line. Chaney capped the drive with a 5 yard touchdown pass to Jade Foster. The 1-point conversion pass was completed from Chaney to Black. Trailing 18-13, the Invaders scored the go ahead touchdown on a TE Throwback pass from Chaney to Black. Black took the pass 45 yards for the winning touchdown. WR Lawrence Upson II made the final block to spring Black into the end zone. The 1-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful. LB Ed Green knocked down Butter’s pass attempt on 4th down to seal the victory for the Invaders. Invaders' Scoring Summary - 19 6 - Touchdown - Black - Pass from Chaney 6 - Touchdown - J. Foster - Pass from Chaney 1 - PAT - Black - Pass from Chaney 6 - Touchdown - Black - Pass from Chaney Interceptions - 0
