The Invaders defeated We R One 21-12 to improve their record to 3-0 in the SMFFL South Division. The Invaders received the ball first and scored on the opening drive. QB Joseph Chaney Jr., led a balance attack, completing passes to TE Tim Black and Center George Wyatt. Chaney capped the drive with a 5 yard TD pass to Black. The 1-point conversion attempt was completed to Wyatt. The Invaders’ inconsistency on defense continued, allowing We R One to respond with a scoring drive on their first possession. The key play of the drive was a 40 yard scamper by the QB, when he was able to get outside the Invaders’ undisciplined rush. We R One capped the drive with a QB dive from the 1 yard line. The 2-point conversion kick attempt was wide left. The Invaders responded with another scoring drive. Chaney completed passes to WR Anthony Weekes, Wyatt and Blocking Back Aaron Kinchen. Chaney capped the drive with a 10 yard TD toss to Wyatt. The 1-point conversion run by Chaney was successful. On their second possession, We R One continued to battle and responded with a 35 yard TD pass. The 2-point conversion kick attempt was wide left again, making the score 14-12. The Invaders responded with another scoring drive. The key play of the drive was a 40 yard completion to Weekes to give the Invaders first and one at We R One’s 21 yard line. Chaney completed another pass to Blocking Block Michael Hawkins who took the ball to the 4 yard line. On the next play, Chaney followed the blocks of Kinchen, Hawkins and WR Jay Drewery into the end zone for a 4 yard TD run. The 1-point conversion run by Chaney was successful to make the score 21-12. On We R One’s last possession, they drove the ball to the Invaders’ 3 yard line, but were unable to score before time expired. Kinchen and Hawkins set the tone for the Invaders with their bruising blocking. Also, Wyatt had 7 catches.
