Former Rebels Shane Newmans and Michael Tucker were named All-Stars and participated in the annual Georgia Junior College Fall All-Star game in Columbus. Congratulations to both of these young men! Also, Congratulations to Jarred Morris for making the BPC varsity team. Morris will be used as a middle reliever this season. The ATCO Baseball Program is very proud of all of you!imageimageimage

2004 VARSITY RECAPS

2004 varsity game summaries and highlights including all region games and the Rebels' victories over 8 playoff teams. ATCO FALLS TO HAWKINSVILLE 2 GAMES TO 1 (5/15) The Atkinson County Rebels traveled to Hawkinsville on Friday for a doubleheader in the 1st round of the state playoffs and split with the home standing Red Devils. ATCO won game #1 2-1 behind Cam Newmans' 3-hit, 13 strikeout performance on the mound. Ricardo Rowles delivered the game winning hit with a 2-out, 2 RBI single in the sixth off of Hawkinsville's ace Drew Whiggum. ATCO dropped game #2 16-11. Starter Ryan Mason took the loss. Hawkinsville and Atkinson each compiled 14 hits and used 3 pitchers in the game. The Rebels were defeated by Hawkinsville 4-3 Saturday in game #3 to decide the series. The game was tied at 3 in the top of the 7th when the Rebels made 2 crucial errors on 1 play that allowed the winning run to score. Keegam Wilkinson pitched 5 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Cam Newmans pitched the final 2 innings of the game and allowed only 1 base runner. The Rebels had runners on 2B and 3B in the 7th, but failed to score them. Armstrong State signee Drew Whiggum pitched his second complete game in the 2-day series in game #3 for Hawkinsville. Cam Newmans was 5-11 during the series with 2 HRs including a grandslam. Antonio Lott was 4-10. ATCO DEFEATS PACELLI (5/11) The Atkinson County Rebels defeated Pacelli 12-9 on Tuesday at ABAC. The Rebels and Vikings used the game as a tune-up for the state playoffs. Each team used 5 pitchers and numerous substitute position players. The Rebels finished their regular season and head into the playoffs with a 19-7 overall record. ATCO DEFEATED BY SEMINOLE COUNTY (5/7) The Atkinson County Rebels were defeated by the Seminole County Indians Friday in a mini-playoff game played at Brooks County High School to determine 2nd place in the region. Ryan Mason took the loss on the mound. Cam Newmans had 2 hits and an RBI at the plate. Seminole County played an outstanding game and should do well in the state playoffs. ATCO had their chances to win the game with runners in scoring position with 1 out in 4 of the 5 innings, but failed to score them. ATCO DEFEATS MCINTOSH COUNTY ACADEMY (5/6) The Atkinson County Rebels defeated McIntosh County Academy 10-0 in 5 innings on Thursday afternoon at South Georgia College. The Rebels were led at the plate by Ryan Mason who collected 3 hits and 3 RBI. Cam Newmans, Antonio Lott, Ricardo Rowles, Jonathon Guthrie, Justin McClellan, Jake Relihan, and Garrett White also had hits in the game. Keegan Wilkinson allowed 2 hits and had 5 strikeouts in his 2nd varsity appearance of the year to pick up the complete game victory. ATCO's record is now 18-6 overall and 9-3 in region 1A. ATCO DEFEATS SEMINOLE (5/4) The Atkinson County Rebels defeated Seminole County 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon in Pearson. The Rebels were led at the plate by Justin McClellan, Cam Newmans, Ricardo Rowles, Jonathon Guthrie, Keegan Wilkinson, and Garrett White who all had hits in the game. Cam Newmans allowed 6 hits and had 8 strikeouts to pick up the complete game victory. ATCO took a 1-0 lead in the 5th when Guthrie lined a single to left that scored Newmans who had doubled earlier in the inning. Seminole took a 2-1 lead in the 6th when Kalom Smith lined a double off the chalk line in right with the bases loaded. The Rebels tied the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the 6th when Newmans scored Relihan. ATCO scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the 8th when Wilkinson plated McClellan with a 1-out, 2 bunt. McClellan reached third after being hit by a pitch, stealing 2B, and advancing to 3B on a wild pitch. ATCO's record is now 17-6 overall and 9-3 in region 1A. ATCO DROPS A GAME AT PELHAM (5/2) The Atkinson County Rebels lost 3-2 at Pelham on Thursday afternoon on a walk-off solo homerun in the bottom of the 7th. The Rebels missed several scoring opportunities during the game. Justin McClellan had 2 hits while Cam Newmans, Ryan Mason, and Garrett White had 1 hit each for ATCO. To Pelham's credit, the Hornets did something the Rebels did not which was take advantage of their very short field to hit 3 short solo homeruns. Hornet pitcher Stephen Harrelson allowed 5 hits and had 3 strikeouts for the win. Cam Newmans allowed 5 hits and had 8 strikeouts in defeat. ATCO's record is now 16-6 overall and 8-3 in region 1A. ATCO WINS AT LANIER (4/27) The Atkinson County Rebels defeated the Lanier County Bulldogs 8-3 Tuesday afternoon in Lakeland. Ryan Mason pitched a complete game for the win. Mason allowed 6 hits, no walks, and had 5 strikeouts. Antonio Lott, Ricardo Rowles and Mason each had multiple hits for the Rebels. Lanier County's ace Alex Moore allowed 9 hits, 1 walk, 2 hit batters, and had 2 strikeouts in a complete game effort. ATCO's record is now 16-5 overall and 8-2 in region 1A. ATCO DEFEATS WARE MAGNET (4/23) The Atkinson County Rebels defeated the Ware Magnet Eagles 5-4 Friday night in Manor. Ryan Mason got the win on the mound and Jake Relihan was 2-3 at the plate. ATCO's record is now 15-5 overall and 7-2 in region 1A. Coach Porter missed Friday's game to attend the birth of his son Bradley Cole Porter. Cole was born at 3:58 PM and weighed 9 lbs 11 oz. ATCO ROLLS OVER ECHOLS COUNTY (4/20) The Atkinson County Rebels beat the Echols County Wildcats 15-1 Tuesday night in Statenville. Jonathon Guthrie was the winning pitcher. Guthrie was also 3-3 at the plate with 2 long homeruns and a triple. Cam Newmans, Justin McClellan, and Zack Harper each added multiple hits. Ricardo Rowles, Ryan Mason, Jake Relihan, and Garrett White each had 1 hit. In all the Rebels collected 15 hits on the night. For the Wildcats starter Heath Bowens took the loss. Bowen was replaced by Morgon Lightsey in the 2nd and then Josh Lett in the 4th. Josh Lett singled, was hit by a pitch, and scored Echols only run. ATCO FALLS TO QUINCY MONROE (4/17) The Atkinson County Rebels fell to Quincy-Monroe(FL) at home Saturday one week after beating the Bobcats in Florida. ATCO was clearly still dragging after the loss to Clinch Friday and getting ready for Saturday night's Prom as the Rebels committed 7 errors to give the game to Monroe. At the plate the Rebel only managed 5 hits on the day. Ryan Mason took the loss on the mound. ATCO DROPS ONE TO CLINCH COUNTY (4/16) The Atkinson County Rebels dropped their overall record to 13-4 and 5-2 in Region 1A with a 9-3 loss to Clinch County in Pearson Friday afternoon. The game was a 3-3 pitcher’s duel between ATCO ace Cam Newmans and Clinch ace Lee Douglas until the 6th inning win the wheels fell off fo the Rebels. The first 5 Clinch batters in the 6th went single, error (dropped infield pop-up), single to load the bases, pop-up to 3B, and fly ball to center. What should have been 3 outs and no runs scored then turned into a calamity of 6 unearned runs. ATCO committed 6 errors on the day. Newmans went 5 2/3 on the mound with 8 strikeouts, 7 hits, and 1 earned run. Ryan Mason went the final 1 1/3 allowing only 1 base runner who was caught stealing. ATCO allowed 1 earned run in the 1st, 2 unearned runs in the 3rd, and 6 unearned runs in the 6th. Offensively, the Rebels collected only 2 hits by Ryan Mason and Ricardo Rowles. The Panthers were led by Douglas who pitched a brilliant complete game on 2 days rest from his 6 innings relief performance against Seminole for that win Tuesday. Douglas was also 3-4 at the plate. ATCO WINS BIG AGAINST PELHAM (4/16) The Atkinson County Rebels improved their overall record to 13-3 and 5-1 in Region 1A with an 11-1 run-rule victory over Pelham in Pearson Monday afternoon. ATCO is currently ranked 3rd in the state by the Georgia Dugout Club and 2nd by GABASEBALL.NET (online coaches' poll). Against Pelham, Ryan Mason went the distance (5 innings) on the mound for the win. Offensively, the Rebels collected 11 hits to go with 2 walks, 3 hit batters, and several errors by Pelham. Cam Newmans, Antonio Lott, and Ryan Mason were each 2-3 at the plate. Ricardo Rowles, Jonathon Guthrie, Justin McClellan, Garrett White, and Bud Morris each added hits for the Rebels. Justin McClellan hit a long 2 run homerun in the 5th inning. ATCO scored the final run on a 1 out walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 5th to end the game. The Hornets' ace Harrelson took the loss pitching to all but the last 2 Rebel hitters. ATCO WINS TWO IN FLORIDA (3/8-3/9) The Atkinson County Rebels improved their overall record to 12-3 (4-1 in Region 1A) with 2 wins in Florida this week. ATCO defeated Quincy Monroe (5-1 in FL District 2A) 7-0 on Thursday and Sneads (4-2 in FL District 2AA) 19-0 on Friday. Ryan Mason allowed 2 hits over 6 innings in the win against Quincy Monroe. Colt Day pitched the final inning. Antonio Lott was 2-3 with a homerun and Jake Relihan was 2-4. Jonathon Guthrie allowed 2 hits to earn the run-rule victory over Sneads. Cam Newmans was 3-3, Jake Relihan was 2-3, Ryan Mason was 2-3, and Justin McClellan was 2-3. Many other Rebels also added hits (16 total) as every varsity and JV player available played in the game. All three teams have played Aucilla Christian this year. ATCO lost at Aucilla during the second week of the season and both Florida teams have recently defeated the Warriors. After playing Friday the Rebels attended game #1 of the FSU-Miami series at FSU's Dick Howser Stadium (FSU 7-Miami 6). ATCO IMPROVES TO 10-3 WITH WIN OVER LANIER (4/2) The Atkinson County Rebels improved their record to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the region with an 8-6 victory at home against Lanier County on Friday afternoon. The Rebels were ripe to be beaten with Spring Break in full swing and several key players injured. Cam Newmans (pitching hand) and Antonio Lott (arm) both sustained significant wounds earlier in the day. Ryan Mason busted-up his index finger early in the week and did not practice Thursday and Daniel Clement is still out from the injury he sustained at Clinch. With a cut, swollen, and bandaged hand Rebel starting pitcher Cam Newmans dominated for 6 innings allowing only 2 hits, 2 unearned runs, and striking out 10. Newmans was pulled with an 8-2 lead due to his 75 pitch count limit. Ryan Mason pitched the 7th and allowed a 2-out grandslam to Lanier's BJ Lucky to let the Bulldogs pull within 2. Lucky's homerun came after an apparent game ending double-play in which the umpire ruled the Rebel's shortstop (Newmans) did not touch the bag on the pivot. Bulldog ace Alex Moore pitched a complete game in the loss. At the plate the Rebels were led by Cam Newmans (2-2 w/ 2 2B, 3R, 2BB) and Ricardo Rowles (2-3 w/ HR, 3B). Several other Rebels also added hits. ATCO catcher Jonathon Guthrie threw out the only 2 Bulldog runners who attempted to steal. #4 ATCO IMPROVES TO 9-3 (3/29) The Atkinson County Rebels improved their overall record to 9-3 with a 5-2 victory at home against Berrien County on Monday afternoon. Berrien is now 9-5 on the season and 3-0 in region 2AA. Jonathon Guthrie (4IP), Ryan Mason (2IP, W), and Cam Newmans (1IP, S) combined to pitch the Rebels to victory. At the plate Ricardo Rowles was 2-3, while Ryan Mason and Cam Newmans each added hits to pace the Rebels. ATCO played without starting 2B Antonio Lott (football visit) and OF/P Daniel Clement (injured). ATCO NOW RANKED #4 AFTER IMPROVING TO 8-3 (3/26) The Atkinson County Rebels concluded a week in which they defeated #2 ranked Clinch County 7-1 in Homerville and class AA Brooks County 20-3 in Quitman with a 13-4 victory at home against region opponent Echols County. The Rebels improved their record to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in region 1A with the win. ATCO is ranked 4th in the new state baseball poll released 3/29/04. In the Echols game Antonio Lott, Ricardo Rowles, and Jacob Dalton each collected 2 hits. Congratulations to all the Rebels who had first time achievements Friday. Starting pitcher Justin McClellan picked up his first win in his first varsity pitching appearance. Freshman Colt Day (RBI single) and sophomore Clint Sheffield each reached base in the first varsity at bats of their careers. ATCO ROLLS PAST BROOKS (3/25) The Atkinson County Rebels improved their record to 7-3 with a 20-3 run-rule victory over Brooks County Thursday night in Quitman. Every starter had at least 1 hit and scored at least 1 run. Cam Newmans, Ricardo Rowles, and Justin McClellan each collected 3 hits. McClellan was 3-3 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI. Ryan Mason (3-1) pitched a 4 hitter to pick up the win. All of the JV Rebels who dressed out for the game saw action. Jordan Hancock homered for the Trojans. Brooks' #2 starter Casey Williams took the loss. ATCO DEFEATS #2 RANKED CLINCH COUNTY 7-1 (3/23) Atkinson County won 7-1 at #2 Clinch County Tuesday. In his first pitching start of the season ATCO's ace Cam Newmans gave up 3 hits and compiled 11 strikeouts in 6 innings before being pulled due to a pitch count. Ryan Mason pitched a scoreless 7th to nail down the win. At the plate Ryan Mason led all hitters going 2-2 with 3 RBI. Cam Newmans, Ricardo Rowles, Jake Relihan, Jonathon Guthrie, Justin McClellan, and Garrett White each had hits for ATCO. ATCO EVENS REGION RECORD AT 1-1 (3/20) Atkinson County won 11-4 over Ware Magnet on Saturday afternoon in Pearson. Coming off the Seminole lost and with bigs games looming next week the Rebels played as poorly as they could have and were lucky to pull out the win. Freshman Daniel Clement (3-0) had 13 strikeouts while earning the win on the mound. Cam Newmans pitched the final inning and had 2 strikeouts. Ricardo Rowles, Jonathon Guthrie, Jake Relihan (HR), Bud Morris, Justin McClellan, and Daniel Clement each had hits for the Rebels. Jake Stewart pitched very well in defeat for Ware Magnet. ATCO DROPS REGION OPENER (3/16) Atkinson County lost 2-0 at Seminole County Tuesday in the region opener for both schools. In the loss ATCO's Ryan Mason allowed 5 hits, had 7 strikeouts, and no walks with only 2 balls hit hard all game. Mason is now 2-1 with wins against Pacelli and Brooks County. Seminole's Kaylom Smith allowed 5 hits, had 8 strikeouts, and 1 walk. Seminole scored both of their runs in the second when ATCO committed the only 2 errors of the game and failed to execute on another play. For ATCO, Ricarod Rowles and Jake Relihan were 2-3 and Cam Newmans was 1-3. Seminole's defense shined as several Rebels hit the ball extremely hard right at Indian defenders who made the play. ATCO FALLS TO AUCILLA (3/12/04) ATCO lost to Aucilla Christian (FL) 8-1 Friday in Monticello. The Rebels committed 4 errors in a game for the first time this season. Ricardo Rowles and Keegan Wilkinson led the offense. Jonathon Guthrie and Daniel Clement combined to allow only 2 earned runs. ATCO DOWNS BROOKS COUNTY (3/11/04) ATCO won 13-3 over Brooks County Thursday in Pearson. Every Rebel starter had at least one hit. Cam Newmans, Ricardo Rowles, and Jake Relihan each had 2 hits. On the mound, Ryan Mason allowed only 2 hits and picked up his second victory of year. ATCO ROLLS OVER MONTGOMERY (3/8/04) ATCO collected 17 hits in a 19-2 run-rule victory at Montgomery County. Every Rebel starter had at least one hit and scored one run. Antonio Lott led ATCO going 3-3 with a long HR and a double. Cam Newmans also had 3 hits. Justin McClellan, Ryan Mason, Ricardo Rowles, and Jonathon Guthrie each added 2 hits. Daniel Clement allowed 3 hits and had 9 strikeouts to earn the win. Montgomery, coming off a run-rule victory themselves over Twiggs County, was led by Adams who was 2-3. ATCO DROPS TO 2-1 (3/5/04) ATCO lost to Berrien County 3-1 Friday night. Jonathon Guthrie pitched a complete game 3-hitter in the loss. The Rebels were lead offensively by Ricardo Rowles, Jake Relihan, and Bud Morris. ATCO MOVES TO 2-0 (3/4/04) ATCO defeated Pacelli 11-0 Thursday to moved to 2-0 on the young season. Ryan Mason pitched an outstanding complete game 4-hit shutout to pick up the win. Every Rebel starter scored at least once. Bud Morris was 4-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI. Ricardo Rowles also had 4 RBI. Senior John Simmons took the loss for Pacelli. REBELS WIN SEASON OPENER (3/1/04) ATCO defeated Montgomery 9-6 in the season opener. Atkinson County was led offensively by Cam Newmans, Ricardo Rowles, and Jake Relihan. Newmans was 2-3 with a 3B and HR. Relihan was 2-4 with an RBI. Starting pitcher Daniel Clement picked up the win as 4 ATCO pitchers combined to strikeout 12 and allow only 2 hits.image

"Developing the young players of our community." REBELS SWEEP THE BUZZ (6/25) Without 4 starters in the line-up, the Rebels still managed to win 12-0 and 8-5 on Wednesday evening. Game 1 starter Daniel Clement allowed just 2 hits while striking out 9. Cam Newmans, Jonathon Guthrie, Jake Relihan, Justin McClellan, Zack Harper, and Lee Chancey had hits. Jake Relihan, making his pitching debut, pitched well in game 2. Newmans, Guthrie(3 for 3), McClellan, and Harper led the way offensively. REBELS SWEEP AGAIN (6/23) Atkinson won game #1 15-4 behind the pitching of Jonathon Guthrie and Colt Day. Guthrie went 4 innings and struck out 8. At the plate the Rebels were led by: Daniel Clement (2-2, 3RBI), Cam Newmans (2-3, RBI), and Ryan Mason (2-4, 2RBI). Guthrie, Day, Justin McClellan, Lee Chancey, and Garrett White all added hits. Atkinson won game #2 in 3 innings by the score of 12-2. Justin McClellan picked up the win on the mound. The leading hitters were: Newmans (2-2, 3RBI), and Mason (2-3, 3RBI). Day, Chancey, and Zack Harper added hits. REBELS SWEEP AT PIERCE COUNTY (6/19) Atkinson won 2 games in Blackshear on Thursday night. Cam Newmans allowed only 2 bloop singles in game 1 as the Rebels cruised to a 10-3 win. Jonathon Guthrie was the leading hitter going 2-3. Newmans, Jake Relihan, Justin McClellan, and Garrett White each added hits. Clint Sheffield and Keegan Wilkinson each added runs. Ryan Mason won game 2 in relief. Mason pitched 4 innings of 1 hit ball to secure the 5-4 victory. Guthrie, Mason, McClellan, and Wilkinson all had hits. Sheffield, Relihan, and Guthrie scored runs. REBELS SPLIT WITH WARE MAGNET (6/13) Atkinson won game 1 by the score of 13-0. 8th grader Daniel Clement pitched a complete game 3 hitter for the win. Magnet's starter Joseph Hayman lasted only 1 inning. The Rebels pounded out 12 hits in the game. Ryan Mason was 3-3, Cam Newmans 2-4, Justin McClellan 2-4. Ware Magnet won the second game 5-1 behind the pitching of Ware County High junior Liston Carter. 8th grader Colt Day took the loss for the Rebels. Cam Newmans and Jake Relihan had hits for Atkinson. It is good to see our 13 & 14 year olds like Colt Day, Daniel Clement, Sean Burch, Zane Nugent, Timmy Wood, and Aaron Cothran playing well on this level this summer! Next week the Rebels will welcome the return of All-Region 1A player Jonathon Guthrie to the line-up after missing both the Aucilla DH and the Ware DH while on vacation. REBELS SPLIT WITH AUCILLA (6/12) Game 1 Thursday afternoon featured the aces from their school's 2003 varsity season in Atkinson's Cam Newmans and Aucilla's David Sherrod. The first time the Rebels faced Sherrod this summer he 1-hit ATCO, but this time the Rebels collected 10 hits and won 11-2. Cam Newmans was 2-2, Jake Relihan was 2-2, and Justin McClellan was 3-3. Ryan Mason, Keegan Wilkinson, and Colt Day added hits as well. Aucilla took game 2 by the score of 3-1. Ryan Mason took the loss on the mound for the Rebels. Justin McClellan continued his hot hitting by going 2-2. On the day, Aucilla was led by David Sherrod (2-5 with a HR), T. Sherrod (2-4), Boyd (1-5), and Gunnels (2-6). REBELS SWEEP PIERCE (6/10) The Rebels swept a double-header with Pierce County on Tuesday afternoon in Pearson by the scores of 4-0 and 7-3. In game 1, Keegan Wilkinson pitched a complete game 1-hitter. At the plate, Cam Newmans was 2-2 (2 dbl, 1BB, 2R), Jonathon Guthrie was 1-2 (1 dbl, 3 RBI, 1BB), Keegan Wilkinson was 1-2 (1 dbl, 1R), and Colt Day was 1-2. Garrett White also scored a run. In game 2, Jonathon Guthrie picked up the win. Guthrie got every out on the hill except the last when Cam Newmans came in to strikeout the final hitter. Offensively in game 2, Ryan Mason was 2-2 (1 dbl, 2 RBI, 2R), Daniel Clement was 2-2 (1 dbl, 1 RBI), Cam Newmans was 1-2(RBI, R), and Jonathon Guthrie was 1-2. Chaz Wood, Zack Harper, Zane Nugent, and Jake Relihan scored runs also. Unfortunately, Chaz Wood suffered a broken leg at the end of game 2. CHAZ, YOU ARE IN OUR PRAYERS! REBELS SWEEP WARE MAGNET @SOUTH GEORGIA COLLEGE (6/5) Scores were 20-7 and 6-1. REBELS DROP 2 TO JEFF DAVIS @SOUTH GEORGIA COLLEGE (5/29) Scores were 5-4 and 6-2. REBELS @AUCILLA (5/27) Scores were 1-0 and 4-4.

2004 SCHEDULES POSTED

The Rebels are very excited about the 2004 season. The ACHS varsity again competes in Region 1A with Clinch County (2003 State Champs), Echols County, Lanier County, Pelham (2003 A playoffs), Seminole County (2003 A playoffs), and Ware Magnet. The non-region schedule includes: Pacelli (2003 A playoffs), McIntosh Academy (2003 A Final 4), Jeff Davis (2003 AA playoffs), Berrien Co. (2003 AA playoffs), Aucilla (2003 FL A playoffs), Sneads (2003 FL A playoffs), Brooks Co., and Munroe (FL). The JV Rebels have a very good schedule with contests against Bacon, Brooks, Clinch, Coffee, Cook, Echols, and Ware Magnet. The Atkinson County middle school Rebels are now members of the Deep South Middle School Conference. Our new conference opponents are: Berrien County, Brooks County, Fitzgerald, Cook County, Irwin County, Tifton, and Valdosta. ATCO will continue to play Ware Magnet and Echols County in non-league action. (Clinch County will not field a middle school team this season. We hope to renew series with the Panthers and Lanier County as soon as possible.)image
