News and Announcements

What equipment does my daughter need to play Villagers Softball?

All players must supply their own glove and cleats.  In addition, all players are also encouraged to supply their own bat and batting helmet (with a cage).  If players elect to wear them, then they must supply their own sliders and fielding face masks.

NOTE:  MSO Softball can provide a bat and/or batting helmet, if required, but most travel softball players elect to supply all of their own equipment.  Please speak to the Villagers coach or a member of the MSO Softball Committee if a bat and/or batting helment needs to be supplied for your player.

Fall Villagers

The Fall Villagers program provides an opportunity for softball players, ages 7 through 14, to continue playing travel softball beyond the summer season.  Fall Villagers teams are selected through a competitive tryout process in June, July and/or August.  Teams will begin practicing in late-August, and games will start in early-September and finish by late-October.

The Fall Villagers teams participate in the Cranford Fall Softball League, Long Hill Softball League or other local league (e.g., Union, Edison, East Hanover).  The Fall Villagers teams practice 1 or 2 times per week and play approximately 6 to 8 league games.  All games will be played at the fields of the town organizing the league plus playoffs.  No games will be played in Maplewood or South Orange.

Additional play in an independent weekend tournament is also possible.

IMPORTANT:  Players are expected to attend ALL practices and games and commit for the ENTIRE season.  Any players who are planning a vacation or who have other commitments during this period must make the coach aware of their plans at the time of tryouts.  Players who fail to comply with this request will be ineligible for fall play the following year.

Questions?

Contact the MSO Softball Committee for more information.

Does my daughter have to play Recreation Softball in order to play on a Villagers Softball team?

Yes.  In order to play on a U8, U10 or U12 Villagers Softball team, girls must participate in the Recreation Softball program during the spring season.  Once girls reach the 8th grade (and play in the U14 age group), participation in the Recreation Softball program is no longer compulsory (as some girls begin to age out of Recreation Softball and become involved in high school softball programs); however, the MSO Softball program encourages the older girls to participate in the Recreational Softball program as long as they are eligible.
