The 9U Hustlers participated in the Memorial Day “Walk ThePlank” Tournament this past weekend. The young Hustlers were put in the 10U Silver bracket for the tournament. It did not start well for the Hustlers. The Hustlers opened up with Smithsburg Elite. The Hustlers took a 4-2 lead into the third inning, when the doors fell off, with Smithsburg capitalizing on walks, errors and timely hitting to put up 15 runs in the 3rd inning. The Hustlers dropped a 24-6 decision. Tegan Kuhns, Brett Lucas, Mason Miller, and Camren Baker all worked on the mound for the Hustlers. The Hustlers only had 5 hits, with Baker, Ryan Jones, who tripled, Miller, Austin Perando, and Jaden Moore, who doubled each having one. The second game on Saturday the Hustlers played the Great Falls Nationals from Virginia. Three Hustler Pitchers limited the team from Virginia to 5 hits, and the Hustlers won the game by a score of 7-4. Ryan Jones, Landon Johnson, and Tegan Kuhns all worked on the mound and pitched very well. The Hustlers only managed 5 hits, with Jones having 3 of them. Mason Miller and Brett Lucas each had one hit. The 9U Hustlers started Sunday as the 16th seed out of 26 teams. The Hustlers first game was a tilt with the Smithsburg Spartans. The Hustlers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 3 innings, and held on to win a tight 6-5 game. Ryan Jones, Jaden Moore, Connor Allen, and Tegan Kuhns held the Spartans to 4 hits. The game got tight when the Hustler defense got erratic in the 5th inning, but the Hustlers held on to win the 1 run game. Cody Rinehart had two hits including a 2 run Home Run to lead the Hustlers. Camren Baker tripled, while Jones, Mason Miller, and Austin Perando each had 1 hit. The next game had the Hustlers playing the Olney All-Stars. This was a great game, with very good pitching and good defense by both teams. The Hustlers committed 4 errors in the game, and this led to 3 unearned runs, and Olney held on to beat the Hustlers 3-2. Ryan Jones, Brett Lucas, and Landon Johnson each pitched for the Hustlers, and all three pitched very well. Again the Hustler bats were silent, with only two hits in the game. Camren Baker and Ryan Jones each had the one hit. The Olney team would make it the championship game on Monday, but lost to the Bulldog Baseball Club. The Young Hustlers battled very well with 10U teams in this tournament.
