Posted by Christina Moore at Jun 7, 2015 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The 9U Hustlers started out strong in the tournament on Saturday. The Hustlers opened up with a 12-2 victory over the Chambersburg Renegades. Ryan Jones paced the Hustlers with three hits including a double, while Camren Baker, Mason Miller and Brett Lucas, who tripled, each had two hits. Connor Allen, Tegan Kuhns, Austin Perando and Frankie Weaver each had one hit. Brett Lucas went three innings, and Tegan Kuhns closed it out on the mound for the Hustlers.

The second game Saturday was much tighter. The Hustlers jumped out to a 5-0 lead, and held on to win the game by a score of 5-2 over the Mid-Atlantic Shockers. The Hustler bats were silent, with only 3 hits in the game. Ryan Jones had two hits, and Landon Johnson had the other hit. Tegan Kuhns and Landon Johnson each pitched two scoreless innings for the Hustlers. Ryan Jones pitched the last inning, but had control problems walking four batters, but the Hustlers held on to win the game.

Saturday’s play earned the Hustlers the number one seed going into Sunday. The game started out looking like the Hustlers would make it to the Semi-finals, but pitching and defense allowed the Williamsport Angels to get back in the game and take the lead, and ultimately doomed the Hustlers. The Hustlers committed three costly errors in the game, combined with eleven walks allowed by the Hustler pitchers, and the result was a 10-7 loss. Brett Lucas, Tegan Kuhns, Landon Johnson, and Frankie Weaver all pitched during the game. The Hustler bats again didn’t do much, only getting 6 hits in the game. Mason Miller and Frankie Weaver each had two hits, while Connor Allen and Kuhns each had one hit. Miller doubled for the Hustlers.

The 11U Hustlers enjoyed a great weekend of baseball in the 4th Annual Battle at Gettysburg in Gettysburg, PA. The Hustlers went 2-0 in Saturday’s preliminary round and beat the Renegades Athletic Club 8-7 and the Keystone Bombers 12-9. Saturday’s play earned the Hustlers the #4 seed in the 14 team tournament Championship round. The young Hustlers started Sunday’s play with an impressive 15-0 win over the Central PA Yetis (#5 seed). That set up a semi-final matchup with the talented #1 seeded GoWags War Eagles. The War Eagles prevailed by a score of 6-3 and went on to win the tournament championship. The War Eagles outscored their other four opponents by a combined score of 38-1, including an 8-0 win over the Southern MD Knights in the final game.

Marshall Mott started on the mound in the semi-final game and was most impressive for 2.2 innings. Unfortunately, Mott ran out of gas and surrendered four runs before the 3rd inning ended. Matt Cunningham came on in relief and pitched well.

Mott, Cunningham, Andrew McElwain, Tyler Prather and Justin Ropp all had strong outings on the mound over the weekend.    McElwain (7-11, .636), Cunningham (5-9, .555) and Nick DeLisi (5-11, .455) led the Hustlers offensively. Cunningham and Jared Struss each homered.

The Hustlers are back in action Wednesday night, 6:00pm, at the Yellow Springs Baseball Complex.
