Fall Baseball Update

Posted by Wayne Main on Sep 21 2015 at 05:00PM PDT
The 2016 12U Hustlers are in full-swing, Fall baseball mode. “We’ve added some new kids to go with our strong core group so there’s really a feeling of optimism and excitement in the air,“ noted Coach Main. “The kids are working hard, the attitudes are amazing, and the results have been impressive to say the least.” In the past two weekends, the Hustlers have tangled with three quality teams: the Olney Pirates, MD Redbirds and the Catoctin Baseball Club. “All three of these clubs are very well coached and the kids play hard so it was satisfying to see our guys getting after it,” added Coach Main. “We hit the ball this past weekend, by far, the best in the two-plus years that this group has been together, and I’m talking right thru the entire lineup.” The Hustlers played the always tough Olney Pirates to a 2-2 tie in a rain-shortened game on the opening weekend, and then turned around and lost two slugfest games (13-12, 15-13) to the extremely talented Redbird team this past Saturday. “Despite being on the wrong end of the score, we took a lot of positives out of these two games because the Redbirds are very good and we had leads going into the last inning of both games; we just didn’t finish,” noted Coach Main. “We squared up balls from gap to gap. I’m thinking we’ll look back at some point and see these games as a turning point for many of our guys.” Sunday’s doubleheader against the Catoctin Baseball Club (CBC) which featured several of the talented players from the Thurmont Little League Mid-Atlantic Regional Runner-up team gave plenty of reason for the optimism. The Hustlers scored ten runs in the first inning of game one and eight runs in the first inning of game two on the way to two wins. The Hustlers are back in action on Friday night in Leesburg, VA, as part of the Longhorn Tournament where they will face Fielder’s Choice (VA).
