Team Goals

Posted by Pat Griffis at Oct 6, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

TEAM GOALS

· To provide an opportunity for young people to engage in a wholesome sport and a lifetime recreational activity.

· To promote physical fitness and encourage proper conditioning and good personal habits.

· To provide opportunities for healthy social, emotional, and educational development.

· To foster the development of high self-esteem and cultivate a positive self-image.

· To ensure everyone has a positive experience in their individual age group.

· To give each swimmer the opportunity to perform in a championship meet.

· To train swimmers in a distance and Medley background so they will be as versatile as possible throughout their swimming careers. Too many swimmers are labeled and specialized too early. With a broad base, we hope to expand the swimmers horizons and maximize potential.

· To offer a comprehensive skill development program that will give each child an opportunity to improve in all four competitive strokes so that each swimmer is more proficient in the water.

· To give each child the opportunity to demonstrate legal starts, turns, and finishes on a regular basis.

· To improve each swimmer’s aerobic base and mental horizon.

· To improve the strength and flexibility of all our swimmers.

Parents Participation

Posted by Pat Griffis at Oct 6, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

PARENTS PARTICIPATION

Parents participation not only demonstrates their interest to the swimmer but also provides parents with an excellent opportunity to learn more about the sport, enhancing their appreciation of their children’s efforts. At each meet there are specific jobs that parents are encouraged to volunteer for in order to help the meet run successfully.

At both home and away meets, each team is requested to provide a set number of “timers” (generally in proportion to the number of swimmers on the team). These are parents who will work the lanes with a partner and time the swimmers as they complete their events. Each parent is requested to volunteer at the meets. On occasion, volunteers will also be asked to work the scorers table to record swimmers times, tally points, and award the ribbons.

At meets conducted at home, parents will be asked to contribute food items to be sold at our bake sale tables. Volunteers will also be needed to sell food during the meet. A member of the parent committee will be coordinating these volunteer efforts. Please volunteer your services – all profits go back to our swimmers.

A list of Parents Committee members will be distributed at the beginning of each season. Please feel free to call any of these individuals, as well as any of the coaches, if you have a question about the swim team or any of the team events.

Orca's Parent Association

Posted by Pat Griffis at Oct 6, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

ORCA’S PARENTS ASSOCIATION

The Orca’s Parents Association is a vital support organization for the Orcas Swim Team. It provides administrative, financial and general support for the Orcas Swim Club. Through the volunteer support of the Orca parents, the numerous jobs required to run the team are accomplished smoothly and swimming becomes a rewarding and fun experience for the entire family.

All parents are required to take an active role in the Swim Team.

All parents are members of the Orca’s Parents Association and each family is required to pay the $35.00 per family annual dues at registration.

The Parents Association is represented by a 5 – 7 person Executive Committee that meets regularly with the Head Coach. Executive Committee members work closely with the coaching staff and the Italian Center to help define policies, procedures, and special programs which result in a smooth running team. The Orca’s Parents Committee also runs subcommittees. We ask that all parents volunteer for a committee.

The money raised by the Parents committee is used to purchase equipment for the team, subsidize social events for the swimmers, pay for coach and swimmer expenses at USA and Championship Meets, and provide gifts for the team at the annual banquet.
