ANDERSON TAKES MATTERS INTO OWN HANDS

Posted by Rob Anderson on Feb 19 2006 at 04:00PM PST

Less than a day after celebrating the birth of a brand new baby girl, Rob Anderson let League new comers Lakeshore United know the type of leader and father they were up against with one of the his best performances in an Ouzo jersey. Anderson, a native of Oakville, Ontario and proud new father of Alexa Anderson left his wife’s side to join up with an excited and eager Ouzo squad.

After falling behind 1-0 early on in the game, Ouzo was able to shake off the weak goal and were level midway through the first half. A strong individual performance by feisty work horse Gus Polymerous allowed him to turn just outside the box and fire home his first goal of the new campaign. Polymerous, who finished last session off at the top of his game, continues to show the form that landed him a spot on the Air Canada traveling squad.

Although Ouzo continued to set the pace of the game, it was Lakeshore United who would snag the lead just before the half putting Ouzo behind for the second time in the game. With the score 2-1 Lakeshore United going into the second half, Ouzo would switch the formation, going with only 3 at the back and pushing an extra player into the midfield. The move would prove to have an immediate impact, as a wide pass from Phil Kennedy gave Anderson the room he needed to step by one defender and slot home his first goal of the night, leveling the score 2-2 early into the second half. With time ticking and the pace of the game increasing, Anderson would show exactly why he is considered one of the top players in the league. A well worked movement starting from the back, saw the ball eventually find the left boot of Anderson, who cut sharply across the face of the goal and slammed home his second of the night, giving Ouzo their first lead.

Another strong performance by netminder Colin Wright kept Ouzo’s lead in tact in the later stages of the game. With less than 5 minutes remaining, and Ouzo clinging to a one-goal advantage it was Anderson again who would slip and slide his way through three defenders before finally being hauled down inside the box. Cool and Calm, Anderson would step up and convert the penalty completing the Natural hat-trick and securing Ouzo’s second straight win to start the season. It was a well played game, with another outstanding performance by Ouzo’s defense.

Three times since moving to the top division have Ouzo started the season 2 and 0. This Sunday at 5:45 against Arnold and Bart, Ouzo look to start the season 3 and 0 for the first time and secure sole position of top spot in-doing-so.
