A late comeback by Ouzo not enough

Posted by Rob Anderson on Dec 18 2005 at 04:00PM PST

On a day when the Colts, the NFL's only undefeated team, lose to the Chargers, Ouzo proved they are not so perfect as well. The boys went into the game with high hopes of securing a play-off spot, but it wasn't meant to be. At least not on Sunday - the boys still have a shot at the 3rd or 4th play-off spot, but now it's out of their hands.

The game began with a brisk pace, but that is something Ouzo has become accustomed to in the 1st division. After going down by two, versatile Midfielder Stu Fletcher brought the boy's to within one with a rocket of a shot that beat the keeper top the near post. The play capped a nice give and go with Rob Anderson.

Mesopotamia's fire power proved to be too much for Ouzo and as a result went up 4-1 before Ouzo could even think about tasting their first beer after the game. With the game almost out of reach, Ouzo dug down and climbed there way back with 2 goals from Rob Rusnov, who at this point in the season might be the teams MVP. His first goal was an unassisted effort that beat the goalie to the short side. The second was assisted by Steve Delaney and driven past a screened goalie. With less than 5 minutes to play in the game, Mike "fireball" Michaelides fed a nice ball to Rob Anderson, who finished into the open net and tying the game at 4. But just as the boys were celebrating, the ref disallowed the goal by saying that Mike kicked the ball out of the keepers hands. "What a load of Bollocks" said newcomer Behn Wurthman after the game. "That ref cost us the game". He was right, because after that call, Mike turned into "the Champ" from Q107 and gave the ref a verbal blow to the solarplexes, which resulted in a 2 minute minor for fiery Midfielder.

From there, Mesopotamia did what they do best. Knocked it around while Ouzo was down a man and capitalized on their chances. The scoreboard read 6-3 after the game. Disappointing finish to an exciting game.
