Rhode Island Connie Mack Baseball - 2023

Winning their seventh and eighth games in a row, West Warwick defeated the Bulldogs of Westerly to advance to the Rhode Island Connie Mack Final Four for the third consecutive year.

Game One: West Warwick 4 Westerly 1
Logan Dean and Brendan Griffin combined on a four-hitter to lead West Warwick past the Bulldogs in game one. Dean, who earned All-Division honors for the Wizards this past spring, struck out four batters in four innings of work. Griffin, who has been WWCM’s most consistent pitcher during their winning streak, allowed just one hit in three innings of work to pick up the save.

The orange and black, who could only muster four hits off Bulldog starter, Tim Fagan, received hits from Nathan Hunt (2/3), Zack Lawrence (1/2, one double, one run scored & two rbi’s) and Dylan Provoyeur (1/2, one run scored). A ground out by Josh Pedus put West Warwick Connie Mack on the board in the bottom of the first.

Game Two: West Warwick 6 Westerly 2
Although West Warwick was held to just two hits by Westerly’s Joey Gabriele, they opportunistically pulled away with a game two win. Gabriele, who pitched seven innings, struck out 13 batters and walked five.

After taking a 1-0 lead when Caden Denton walked with the bases loaded in the top of the second inning, the orange and black scored three runs in the top of the third inning to build a 4-0 lead.

Brendan Griffin (2/3, one run scored & one rbi) led off with a single, advance to second on a walk to Josh Pedus and then, moved to third base when Nick Brown walked and scored on Anthony Burt’s sacrifice fly to center field. Two out later, Pedus raced home on a passed ball and Brown scored on an error.

Anthony, who earned the win, struck out seven batters, walked three and allowed just two runs in 4 2/3 innings of work. Josh Pedus (two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings) and Brendan Griffen (one strike out in 1 inning) took over the mound duties and held the Bulldogs scoreless the rest of the game.

Chase Collins had two hits and one rbi for the Bulldogs.
