In the quarterfinals of the Rhode Island Connie Mack State Tournament, the number seven seed, West Warwick, forced a game three with number two seed, Slocum Baseball, with a 6-1 in game two.

Led by the complete game pitching of Calvin Battersby, West Warwick generated enough offense to upset the North Kingstown based team. Battersby allowed just one earned run on five hits while striking out nine batters and walking one.

In the bottom of the third inning, West Warwick took a 4-0 lead on hits by Sean White, Chase Joubert (rbi single), Josh Pedus (two-run double) and Sammy Corrado (rbi double).

Slocum scored their only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning when Justin McCarthy singled and scored one batter later on a fielder’s choice by Josh Lincourt.

West Warwick opportunistically scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Logan Dean (single) and Quinn Kortick (single) scored on a pass ball and wild pitch.

WWCM Notes: West Warwick, who has played thirteen seasons in the Rhode Island Connie Mack league, picked up their tenth win of the year. It is only fourth time in the program’s history that they have reached ten or more wins while playing in the wooden-bat based league.
