Hilltoppers Teams Complete All-Stars Play

Posted by Ken Cicalo at Jun 26, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
All five Hilltoppers All-Star teams have completed their District tournaments, signaling the end of the 2006 season. 9&10-year-olds: Dropped their first game on July 3 to University City. They concluded tournament play on July 6, dropping a game to Scripps Ranch National. This tournament was hosted by Clairemont Mesa Little League. 10&11-year-olds: Their opening game on Monday, July 3 against Rancho Penasquitos South was dramatic, with the Hilltoppers dropping a squeaker to a fine RP South squad. They then defeated Mission Bay 5-0 on July 6. They concluded play with a loss to Scripps Ranch National on July 8. This tournament was hosted by Mira Mesa. 11&12-year-olds: On July 1, our Majors All-Stars locked up in a tight pitcher's duel with Scripps Ranch American, eventually coming out on the short end of a 3-0 decision. Their next game on July 6 was a very hard-fought game against Rancho Penasquitos Central. Hilltoppers scored two runs in the last inning to edge RP 6-5. Their tournament ended with a loss to Clairemont Mesa on July 8. Rancho Penasquitos hosted this tournament. Our Juniors All-Stars began District tournament play on Thursday, June 29, battling a determined University City team, before dropping a 9-5 decision. Their next game on July 6 against Coronado was a 5-5 tie when called for darkness after 8 innings. Completing this epic game on July 8, these two teams went round and round until our Hilltoppers pulled it out in spine-tingling fashion in 13 innings. Later that day, they were defeated by Peninsula to end their tournament run. This tournament was played at the Mira Mesa Little League fields. Seniors: Our 15&16-year-olds won their first game 13-3 on July 5 against University City. Their final game was an 11-3 loss to Mission Bay on July 6. Thanks to all the parents and coaches who worked so hard to get their teams ready for these tournaments. Thanks also to all the players who provided thrills and excitement in their games. Congratulations on being Hilltoppers All-Stars. If you want to see how other leagues are doing in these tournaments, and where the champions will advance to next, you can go to the District 32 website: eteamz.active.com/llbbca32 for the latest scores and schedules.

Champions Named in Four Divisions

Posted by Ken Cicalo at Jun 7, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
After an exciting week of playoffs, Clairemont Hilltoppers Little League finished with champions in four different divisions. Farm Division: Following first-round wins by the Mets over the Orioles and the Rockies over the Yankees, the Rockies topped the Mets in an exciting final game to capture the title. Minors Division: Cubs defeated the Marlins in the first playoff game. A's defeated the Cubs in the semi-finals. And on Saturday the 17th, the A's edged Cardinals to win the crown and advance to the Minors T.O.C. beginning on June 24 at our field. Majors Division: The Angels and Padres battled evenly all season, and the playoffs were no exception. The Padres took the first game 4-2, the Angels won the second game 5-3, and on Saturday the 17th, the Angels held on for a thrilling 2-1 win to capture the league title and advance to the Majors T.O.C. starting on Wed., June 21 at Clairemont Mesa. Juniors Division: Again two evenly matched teams hooked up in a best 2 of 3 playoff, with the White Sox edging the Red Sox in game 1, and coming back to take the championship with perhaps the most exciting juniors game of the year, in an 8-inning nail-biter. The White Sox begin T.O.C. play on Wed., June 21 at Mira Mesa. Congratulations to all the teams who played so well this season, and good luck to each of our Tournament of Champions entrants!

All Hilltoppers players age 9 or older in Minors and above are eligible to be selected to one of our post-season All-Star teams.

In order to be considered for one of these teams, however, each player must have their birthdate and residency verified by a member of the Little League District 32 staff. Your last chance to do this will be on Saturday, May 14 from 11:00-1:00 p.m. next to our snack bar building.

You must bring your ORIGINAL birth certificate for each child. Please also bring a copy, which the district rep will sign, verifying your child's age. (All birth certificate copies will be shredded at the conclusion of All-Star play.)

You must also bring three different proofs of residency, showing that your child lives within our boundaries (or your current address if we have a waiver for your child to play in our league). These proofs of residency must come from THREE DIFFERENT of the following categories:

1. Driver's license
2. Voter registration
3. School records
4. Welfare/child care records
5. Federal records
6. State records
7. Local (municipal) records
8. Support payment records
9. Homeowner or tenant records
10. Utility bills (SDG&E, water, phone, waste disposal)
11. Financial records
12. Insurance documents
13. Medical records
14. Military records
15. Internet, cable or satellite records
16. Vehicle records
17. Employment records

Again, your three proofs must come from different categories. Three utility bills (phone, SDG&E and water bills) will only count as ONE proof. For many people, the easiest selections seem to be their drivers license, a report card, and a utility bill. But any three different categories will do. Please also bring copies of these items, and they will also be shredded at the end of All-Star play.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Beginning with this season, Little League now requires any dated proofs of residency to be from the months of October 2010, November 2010, December 2010 or January 2011. Please be sure you have proofs from one of those months.

If you have any questions about this process, please contact Player Agent Melanie David at 858-274-6964 or melanie-david@sbcglobal.net.

All Day June 4

Posted by Ken Cicalo at Apr 25, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

SOFTBALL TOURNEY MOVED TO JUNE 4

Our 21st annual “Never on Mother’s Day” Adult Coed Softball Tournament, originally rained out in May, will now be played the day after Closing Day, on Sunday, June 4th, and promises to once again be a day to remember.

This annual tournament brings together Hilltoppers parents, coaches, families and friends for a day of fun, food, camaraderie... and even a little softball.

Teams of adults will take part in this all-day coed tournament. Every team plays a minimum of two games, and every participant goes home with the beautiful souvenir tournament t-shirt. This is a great chance for kids from our league to come out and see the parents and coaches who have been giving them "advice" all year, try to live up to those standards.

Games start bright and early at 8 a.m., and continue until our champion is crowned in the early evening. Our snack bar is open all day, serving up breakfast, lunch and plenty of drinks and snacks in between.

We still have room for teams and players, but don't wait to sign up. Contact Bill Salonius at 619-208-2522 or Ken Cicalo at KenC1313@yahoo.com as soon as possible to join this great event!
