March 2007 - Dust Off The Rust

Posted by Debora Hatke on Mar 12 2007 at 05:00PM PDT
The Lynx clearly needed to "dust off the rust" in their opening game against Cincinnati Classics Hammer. The Classics superior first touch gave them a considerable advantage in possession and they took a well deserved one goal lead into half time. The Lynx started to find their game in the second half. The Lynx were awarded a penalty when a Classics defender pushed Lauren Hoover and she stepped up to coolly put the Lynx even. With 5 minutes to go the Classics goalkeeper failed to hold a Lauren Hoover free kick and Heather McNutt pounced to to give the Lynx a 2-1 victory. The Lynx played much better in their second game against Carmel United. In a game of few scoring opportunities Claire Webb forced a good save from the Carmel keeper and Cailyn Wachtel and Lauren Hoover had shots go inches wide. With just two minutes to go Carmel scored the only goal of the game to steal a 1-0 win. The Lynx started off brightly against Ohio Elite, having several shots on goal before Katie Mueller put the Lynx ahead. Just before half time the Lynx defense conceeded a free kick just outside their penalty area and Ohio Elite equalized. The Lynx produced a disappointing second half display, conceeding two more goals and losing 3-1.
