Sorcerer Katie Fleury commits to Notre Dame

Posted by Bob Stauder at Sep 11, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Katie Fleury
Fleury was a CalHiSports All-State Underclass pick in 2006 as Mitty went 22-7 and won its sixth Central Coast Section division title and second in two years. A multi-sport standout who was also all-league in field hockey and voted league Junior of the Year, Fleury returned late last night from a trip to South Bend where she told Irish coaches she'd be coming in the fall of 2007. The senior has made all-league every year and first-team all-CCS and second team all-state underclass her sophomore and junior years. She was also named Scholar Athlete of the Year for her school team the last two seasons. Fleury was recruited by various schools across the country but focused initially on schools in California, making unofficial visits to UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara and Pacific. Her focus shifted to Notre Dame once the Irish started to recruit her after a strong performance at the Fireworks tournament in Colorado. She took her official visit to Notre Dame this past weekend and, according to a source close to the family, "fell in love with everything about it and she gave them her verbal commitment. The strong academic and athletic traditions, the beautiful campus, the wonderful coaching staff and the friendships she made with the other incoming recruits and current players all helped Katie make her decision." The infielder has a 3.9 GPA and plans to study political science at Notre Dame before going to law school. "Katie has been an outstanding player and leader for Sorcerer Softball," her club head coach Phil Mumma said today of Fleury, who is the third of his four seniors to commit, along with pitcher/outfielder Valerie Arioto (Cal) and infielder Samantha Camuso (UCLA). "She is an outstanding hitter, can play virtually anywhere, and did a great job for us this past season at shortstop. She will do very well at the next level." sssoftball.rivals.com
