Sorcerer started elimination play today in the Colorado Fireworks Tournament here in Aurora, CO.
Starting the game for Sorcerer was Oklahoma-committed pitcher, Michelle Gascoigne. With high scoring victories over the TX Connection Gold, 11-3, and the TX Hearts of Texas, 6-1, Sorcerer was pumped going into game three against the 2006 Fireworks Champion Worth Firecrackers. However, after 13 games in 7 days, fatigue may have set in, as Sorcerer committed several errors in the 2nd inning to allow the Firecrackers to score 4 runs.
In the third inning, Mackenzey Bard relieved Michelle Gascoigne and shut down the Firecracker offense. Sorcerer offense needed to step up, and after 5 innings of play, it finally did, with two runs in the 6th inning.
In the top of the seventh inning, Sorcerer outfielder Shenise Cox put out all three batters, easily catching 3 consecutive pop flies to left field.
In the bottom of the inning, Sorcerer resolved not to quit. Whitney Shaw, who homered in the the previous game, started the action with a hit that bounced over the left field fence for a ground rule double. Brooke Coloma followed suit with another double that also bounced over the fence, scoring Whitney. Then, Kasey Tydingco hit a single to left-center field, bringing Brooke to 3rd.
With two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning, Notre-Dame bound Sorcerer Katie Fluery stepped up to the plate. Katie fouled off pitch after pitch, until she got the one she wanted. Then, she reeled back and swung. Fans rose to their feet as the ball took flight to deep left-center field. Alas, the ball fell short, coming within 10 feet of being a walk-off home run and was caught by the Cal-bound left fielder ending the game with a score of 3-4.
