CA Athlete of the Week: Home run totals piling up for Aptos’ Kostreba

The senior headed to Cal says all she’s doing is trying not to hit ground balls, but she hit seven homers in six games and raised her career total to 45

The old cliché “big things come in small packages” may sometimes be overused, but not in the case of Breana Kostreba, star slugger at Aptos (Aptos, Calif.).

The fact is no one in the almost three-year history of the ESPN RISE Cal-Hi Sports State Athlete of the Week award possesses a greater resume than the 5-foot-3 Cal-bound senior third-sacker.

Kelsey Ayers going to Amherst

Posted by Bob Stauder at Dec 13, 2010 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
"I committed to Amherst for many reasons.  The academics are among the top in the country and I cannot wait to step out onto the Amherst softball field next year.  Coach Sue Everden and Assistant Coach Whitney Mollica, along with all of the players, have been so enthusiastic and welcoming.  I first fell in love with the campus when I visited in the middle of winter last year.  I would like to thank everyone at the Sorcerers organization for their support, advice and direction.  I am looking forward to enhancing my mind while continuing on with softball at the collegiate level with Amherst."

Megan Averitt - named Co-MVP of the ACCAL Alameda Contra Costa Athletic League.

"I chose Dartmouth because it has everything I was looking for in a college and softball program: the people are great, the academics are fantastic, and the sense of community is unparalleled.  When I went on my visit, everyone was extremely welcoming and both the players and Coach Hanson were very enthusiastic about the upcoming season. Dartmouth is a place where I know I will thrive on and off the field. I am very excited to fulfill my dreams of playing Division I softball and receiving and Ivy League education."
