Sorcerer Defeats SoCal Pumas 4-1 To Take Game 3 of Regionals

Posted by Derrick Burns on Jun 15 2007 at 05:00PM PDT
In the third game of regional competition, Sorcerer faced the So Cal Pumas, a well-coached, short-ball team with excellent defense. The first run of the game came as Emily Allard scored when Maya Burns hit a hard ground ball down the first base line, following a walk and a sacrifice bunt by Kasey Tydingco that put Emily on second base. The Pumas returned with a run in the top of the second inning following a similar script. Outstanding pitching from Michelle Gascoigne and effective defensive plays from Emily Allard, Jordan Wallace, Natasha Hawkins, Tiffany Dueck, and Ashley Rose kept the game at 1 to 1 until the Sorcerer bats warmed up again. Then, after loading the bases in the bottom of the fourth inning with no outs, Jordan Wallace hit a beautiful ball down the first base line to score two runs. Maya Burns following with a hard grounder to the right side of the field, getting an out, but enabling another run to score. Maya has 12 hits in the last 14 at bats. Stephanie Bregante entered mid-game to relieve Michelle and proceeded to strike out the next three batters. Sorcerer maintained excellent defense and closed the game after 5 and a half innings of play.
