Katie Fleury Signs NLI to Notre Dame
Sorcerer Katie Fleury has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Notre Dame in the fall of 2007 and to join the Fighting Irish softball team coached by Deanna Gumpf. Fleury verbally committed to Notre Dame in early September following a visit to South Bend with Coach Gumpf. According to a source close to the family, Katie "fell in love with everything about it and she gave them her verbal commitment. The strong academic and athletic traditions, the beautiful campus, the wonderful coaching staff and the friendships she made with the other incoming recruits and current players all helped Katie make her decision." From StudentSportsSoftball.com:
Fleury is a power hitting shortstop who will provide excellent speed and versatility to the Notre Dame lineup. During her prep career, she has led Archbishop Mitty to Western Catholic League (WCAL) championships every season with a combined record of 73-19. Over the summer playing for the Sorcerer 18U Gold team; she hit .425 with four home runs, five triples, nine doubles and 40 runs batted in (RBI). Fleury, a standout field hockey player, has led her team to the WCAL Championship in each of the last two seasons. "The first time I saw Katie play, I knew I wanted her to play at Notre Dame," Gumpf commented. "She is a leadoff hitter with great power who has all the necessary skills to be a great success in the middle infield at Notre Dame."
The infielder has a 3.9 GPA and plans to study political science at Notre Dame before going to law school.
