Posted by Derrick Burns on Jun 14 2007 at 05:00PM PDT
Sorcerer opened play at the 2007 Pacific Coast Region 14 National Qualifier today at 6 PM game with an 11-1 victory over the Berkeley Bears. In the first inning, Emily Allard bunted the ball to get on base. Emily stole 2nd base then Kasey Tydingco executed a beautiful sacrifice bunt to move Emily to 3rd. Jordan Wallace completed the objective with a hard hit ground ball to the shortstop to score the run. In the top of the second inning, Sorcerer committed two errors, a balk, and hit a runner with a pitch to help the Bears to score their first and only run. Putting an end to the errors and motivating the offense, Maya Burns led off the second inning with a home run over the center field fence, her first home run of the season. Directly following Maya at bat was Whitney Shaw, who also crushed a home run over the center field fence, her second of the season. Not to be outdone by her power hitting teammates, Jordan Wallace hit a deep bomb over the left field fence, her fourth home run of the season. Following this display of hitting, the Berkeley Bears changed pitchers. Shenise Cox singled up the middle. Sizing up the new pitcher Maya, Maya Burns returned to the plate and crushed another pitch over the center field fence, a two-run homer, her second home run of the game and of the season. Substituting for Shenise Cox for one at bat, Brooke Coloma took full advantage of the situation as she hit a home run over the left field fence, her first of the season. Following Brooke, and facing yet another pitcher, Maya Burns returned to the plate. As a crowd of former teammates on the Norcal Shockers and players from the Sorcerer Gold - Pete team watched, Maya hit yet another bomb to the center field that bounced off of the top of the 8" high fence, allowing Maya only a double and narrowly missing a third consecutive home run. Of note, Maya has 9 hits in her last 10 at bats. In the final innings, Sorcerer continued to score again and again, producing a total 11 runs while allowing only one. Online results are maintained throughout the tournament by the ASA.
