Sorcerer Defeats SoCal Jets with Walk-off Home Run

Posted by Derrick Burns on Jun 30 2007 at 05:00PM PDT
In the fourth game of elimination play of the Colorado Fireworks tournament, Sorcerer faced the SoCal Jets Gold, who took an early 3 run lead in the first inning. Sorcerer scored a run in the third, but in the fourth inning, the Jets extended that lead with a 3 run homer, making the score a nightmarish 1-6. But Sorcerer gave the Jets a nightmare of their own. In the fifth inning, Sorcerer bats finally came alive, when Katie Fleury hit a 3 run homer over the center field fence. Jordan Wallace followed with a 2 run homer, tieing the score, 6-6. As time ran out, the sixth inning began and the Jets scored again, taking the lead 6-7. Sorcerer was the home team and had one more chance. Sorcerer took advantage and scored a run, tieing the score again, 7-7. Under international tie-breaker rules, Jets placed a runner on 2nd base to start the inning. Jets got a base hit to put runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs. However, pitcher Mackenzey Bard was not to denied as she retired the next three batters. In the bottom of the inning, with a chance to win it all, Whitney Shaw went to the plate. With 5 home runs this season, Whitney has demonstrated that she has the power, and on her second pitch, Whitney hit a walk-off 2 run homer to win the game!
