The Bay Valley Athletic League softball and baseball seasons concluded last week, as Freedom High School swept the league titles and stormed into this week’s North Coast Section playoffs looking to build on that success.

The Falcon softball team, which finished the regular season with an impressive 23-2 overall record and a 15-1 mark in league play, earned the No. 1 seed heading into the NCS 3A playoffs and hosted Washington (Fremont) on Tuesday afternoon, defeating the No. 16 seed Huskies 6-1. With the win, the Falcons advanced to Wednesday’s quarterfinal round, where they hosted Berkeley after the Press went to print.

Pitcher Hannah Williams led the way for the Falcons on Tuesday, settling down after allowing a solo home run in the first inning and shutting Washington out the rest of the way, finishing with 14 strikeouts.
