Posted by Bob Stauder on Nov 06 2011 at 04:00PM PST
Sorcerer sophomore infielder Julia Deponte has verbally committed to the University of Washington. DePonte, who attends Vacaville H.S. in Vacaville, Calif., gave her pledge to accept a softball scholarship to Huskies' head coach Heather Tarr.
"I chose Washington because it has everything I want for my future," DePonte said, "on and off the field.  I was warmly welcomed by the players and by the coaching staff on my visit there.  There was a unique bond among them that felt like family.  I knew I wanted to attend the University of Washington."
"Julia DePonte is an athlete who is skilled playing a number of positions," Sorcerer head coach Phil Mumma said.  "She utilizes her athletic ability and softball instincts to perform at a high level no matter where the team needs her. That is very rare in today's game and is one of the factors that made Julia a highly-coveted prospect."
DePonte was recruited by a number of high-level programs, including five of last year's WCWS teams. Julia was impressed by Washington's academic reputation as well as it softball success. "Academically, Washington is highly respected.  I will be able to explore a number of fields of study before selecting the major that will prepare me for my life after softball," she said.
DePonte will follow fellow Sorcerers outfielder Victoria Hayward and pitcher Kasey Stanchek to the Seattle campus. She will join the ranks of 19 other Sorcerers presently playing at or committed to seven Pac-12 schools.
Congratulations to Julia!
