Krista Williams verbals to Northwestern University

Posted by Bob Stauder on Oct 24 2011 at 05:00PM PDT

Krista Williams has verbally committed to accept a softball scholarship to Northwestern University.  Williams gave her verbal to Wildcats Head Coach Kate Drohan, following her return from an October unofficial visit to the Evanston campus.

"I chose Northwestern because it has everything I am looking for," Williams said.  "Northwestern is a strong academic university that maintains a competitive softball program.  That balance is what I wanted in a university and it exceeded my expectations.  I loved that the coaching staff and players were extremely committed and enthusiastic about their program. I am looking forward to becoming a Northwestern Wildcat"!

Williams, a speedy runner who both slaps and swings with power, attends Amador Valley H.S. in Pleasanton, Calif., where she also pitches.  She helped lead the Dons to the 2011 North Coast Section championship, hitting .512 for the season and recording a 0.51 ERA.  Her performance earned her a spot on the All-State second team and she was named Bay Area Newspaper group Player of the Year. For Sorcerer she plays both outfield and first base.

"We are proud of Krista for what she has achieved on and off the field," Sorcerer head coach Phil Mumma said.  "Krista works hard on her game and gets better each year both offensively and as a defender - she does many things well.  She is a true student/athlete and will be well matched in the Northwestern program."

Northwestern is a member of the Big-10 conference and reached the semi-finals of the Women's College World Series in 2006 and 2007. Former Sorcerers Emily Allard and Sammy Albanese are current Wildcats.

Congratuations, Krista!
