Gabby Maurice commits to UCLA

Posted by Bob Stauder on Sep 21 2011 at 05:00PM PDT

Sorcerer Gold - Phil infielder Gabrielle Maurice has verbally committed to accept a softball scholarship to UCLA.  The Modesto sophomore gave her commitment to Bruin head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez during a recent unofficial visit to the Westwood campus.

"I chose UCLA because to me it has the best of everything,"Gabby said.  "I know that I will receive a great education from one of the top public universities in the country, as well as play for the nation's most successful college softball program."

Gabby also cited a highly-regarded coaching staff, the program's family atmosphere, and a chance to play in the Pac-10 as additional reasons for choosing UCLA. Maurice is currently a standout second baseman for Johansen High School, ranked near the top of NorCal prep softball. She burst on the national recruiting scene shortly after joining Sorcerer last fall.

"Gabby certainly generated substantial interest from many of the nation's strongest programs in a very short time," Sorcerer head coach Phil Mumma said. "But as good as she is now, she will continue to grow as a player.  She is very coachable, likes to play and loves to compete. That's hard to beat. "Samantha Camuso, who hit eight post-season home runs during the Bruins 2010 national championship drive, and freshman catcher Alyssa Tiumalu are former Sorcerer's currently playing for UCLA.

Congratulations Gabby!
