Casey Stangel leads high school to State title

Casey Stangel named Gatorade Player of the Year for Idaho!

Lake City sophomore pitcher Casey Stangel completed a perfect season with a one hit shutout in the T-Wolves 2-0 win over Timberline in the 5A State Championship game Saturday in Post Falls/Coeur d'Alene.

The rain proved to be almost as powerful as Stangel, forcing the game to be moved in the bottom of the second inning from Post Falls high school to Lake City high school with the T-Wolves up 1-0. Timberline's head coach David Goodwin joked with the umpires that the T-Wolves run should be forfeited since the game would be finished on their home field. With Stangel on the mound, it wouldn't have mattered. The sophomore was on fire, allowing only two runs the entire tournament, finishing the season 25-0.

As good as the T-Wolves were this season, they should be even better next year. They have only two seniors on the roster, but both Becky Short and Avalon Leddy were important contributors to this years team.
