EAGLES LOOK TO GET BACK ON TRACK
It was a tough two week stretch as Trumbull squared off against the FCIAC's best in games with Darien, New Canaan and Ridgefield.
Trumbull brought little intensity or physical play as they fell to 5th ranked Darien 6-3. After a 7-0 victory over a rebuilding Westhill team, the Eagles played an excellent game against New Canaan but could not get the calls nor the bounces and eventually fell 4-2 in a heartbreaker. Trumbull dropped the third of four games 5-2 as they were outplayed by the state's top point getter, Ridgefield.
The Eagles kicked off the first game of a lighter stretch with a lack-luster effort against Wilton. Trumbull's inability to move the puck, refusal to take the body and poor positioning nearly cost them the game as they squeaked out a 3-1 win over the Warriors.
The season winds down with some very winnable games including a tough home match up with Chesire (02/15) and a road game against Immaculate (02/20) which represent Trumbull's last chance for that quality Division I victory that has eluded them this season. The Eagles are currently 10-4-0.
EAGLES QUALIFY FOR TOURNAMENT!
On Saturday night, the Eagles notched their eighth win of the season and qualified for the CIAC State Hockey Tournament. Trumbull has qualified for tournament play five of the last seven seasons and looks to make their first appearance in the D1 pool under the new playoff format. Their overall record is now 8-1-0.
The Eagles qualified with a come from behind victory over the Greenwich Cardinals. The offense struggled early on as they tried to break down Greenwich goalie, John Rogers, who was sharp all game. After wasting numerous power play chances, Trumbull found themselves trailing 2-0 going into the final period. The Cardinals undisciplined play finally caught up with them as the Eagles connected on three consecutive PP goals from Nick Watson, Matt Christoffersen and James Devore. Dan Miressi closed out the game with an empty netter and two assists.
