  PANTHERS ON THE GRIDIRON

Three Panther players competed for their schools on the gridiron this fall with impressive results.......

CONNER VANCLEAVE - Holcomb High School

Conner added to his ring collection this fall as the Holcomb Longhorns were crowned Kansas State 4A Champions with a 21-0 victory over perinial power Holton HS. The 11-2 Longhorns swept through the playoffs and on a layer of snow and ice in 20 degree weather with a wind chill of below 0 captured the schools first football state championship. The championship comes on the heels of last years State basketball title. Conner played both ways for the Longhorns at tight end and defensive end where he was selected to the All Conference team for both. He had 30 receptions for 270 yards with 7 touchdowns and 5/ 2 point conversions. On defense Conner had 78 tackles with 7 sacks and 11 tackles for loss as well as 3 interceptions with 1 returned for a TD. Congratulations to Conner who now takes the court this week to start the defense of the Longhorns state title.

BAILEY WELCH - Randleman High School (5-6)

Bailey quarterbacked the Tigers this fall and finished the season just short of 2000 yards of total offense. He threw for 1550 yards and 16 TD while rushing for 433 yards and another 5 TD.

OWEN WHITE - Carson High School (7-5)

Owen led the Carson Cougars to the NC State 3A play offs from the quarterback position as well. He accounted for 1617 yards of total offense. Owen was 74-140 passing for 1316 yards and 12 TD; rushed for 175 yards and 6 TD; and had 2 receptions for 126 yards. Owen transitioned straight from the gridiron to the basketball court where he will help lead the Cougars this winter.
