PERFECT GAME WWBA 16U

The 2010 SC Panthers began participation in the Perfect Game World Wood Bat 16U Championships with 196 of the top 16U teams in the country the week of July 14 in East Cobb, Georgia.

GAME 1

Winning Pitcher: Mat Batts (3-0)

Leading Hitters: Andy Wilson 1-1 (2B); Trevor Hovis 1-1 (2 RBI); Brian Holberton 1-2.

Mat Batts got the Cats off to a solid start in the 2010/16U WWBA Nationals with commanding 7-1 complete game victory over the SW Michigan Rebels. Mat struck out 8 and allowed only 4 base runners for the win.

The Panther batters collected 5 hits for the game and walked seven times. Getting hits were Josh Greene; Andy Wilson; Brian Holberton and Trevor Hovis.

GAME 2

Augusta Angels  2...............................................2......4.....1

Winning Pitcher: Ryan Butler (3-3)

The Panthers started out the game with a big six run inning and continued to push runs across in beating the Angels from Augusta 14-2. Starting pitcher Ryan Butler pitched 4 innings; striking out 3 and giving up 1 earned run for the victory. Kurt Semeniuk pitched an inning in relief; striking out one.

Eleven Panthers collected hits with the big one being a Grand Slam HR by Brett Austin. Other Cats getting hits were Brian Holberton; Ty Linton; Seth Neely; Mikal Hill; Rafael Gonzalez; Andy Wilson; Corbin Shive; Casey Gebhardt; Jake Watson and Trey Laney.

GAME 3

Franklin Outlaws  1..........................................................1.....4.....2

Winning Pitcher: Corbin Shive (6-0)

The junior Panthers fought hard to earn a 3-1 victory over the Franklin Outlaws. Corbin Shive pitched a complete game victory for his sixth win of the summer. Corbin worked out of several jams and struck out 7 while spreading out 4 hits.

Offensive heros for the day were DH Trevor Hovis who singled in the tying run and PH Andy Wilson who drove in the game winning RBI. Other Panthers getting hits were Josh Greene; Tyler Tewell and Jake Watson with two hits.

GAME 4 - Championship Round of 64

SW FLA Bombers  2..............................................2.......4.....3

Winning Pitcher: Jesse Brewer (5-1)

The Panthers struck early for three runs and held the lead to beat the Bombers from Florida 6-2. Starting pitcher Jesse Brewer pitched 6 plus solid innings giving up 3 hits and struck out 7. Kurt Semeniuk came on in relief and shut down a late Bomber threat.

Leading the 10 hit attack was Andy Wilson who went 2 for 3 on the day. Other Panthers getting hits were Josh Greene; Rafael Gonzalez; Ty Linton; Seth Neely; Trevor Hovis; Jake Watson; Trey Laney and Alex Tomasovich with Gonzalez; Laney; Linton and Tomasovich driving in runs. 

GAME 5 - Championship Round of 32

Mizuno Titans  6.....................................................6.....10.....1

The Panthers failed to hold a 3-1 lead and lost out to the Mizuno Titans 6-3 in the round of 32 at the Perfect Game WWBA 16U Championships to end the tournament with a 4-1 record. Leading hitters for the Cats were Mikal Hill 1-2; Josh Greene 1-2 and Rafael Gonzalez 1-3 with an RBI.

Starting pitcher Andy Wilson suffered his first 16U loss of the season in giving up 6 runs in 4 innings.
