Fall Baseball and Softball - REGISTER NOW!!! ONLY A FEW SPOTS LEFT......

Posted by Beth Johnson on Sep 07 2006 at 05:00PM PDT
Fall Ball Update The Minors Fall Ball program is closed, but we are taking names on a wait list. Please contact Mark Macdonald at mrrm@capgroup.com to put your child's name on that list. The Majors program has openings, but only for the teams playing games on the Tuesday and Saturday night schedule. To accommodate AYSO soccer needs, MLL moved some of their Majors Fall Ball games to Tuesday night. Registration will remain open until these spots are full. Manhattan Beach Little League 2006 Fall Baseball and Softball Program - Register today for Major League girls (ages 10-13), and for Minor/Major League boys (ages 9-12). Registration will close on September 2, 2006 so don't delay. You will need to provide proof of age if your player is new to MBLL. Major League Softball (with Junior League players): The league will consist of players born in '93, '94 and '95 (and perhaps some born in '96 who will be playing Major softball in 2007), who will be playing in either the Junior League or Major League in 2007. We will be using Major League Softball rules and will be playing against teams from other Little Leagues in the area. It is anticipated that there will be one practice and one game a week, with expanded team rosters to account for player absences from time to time. Games will most likely be played on either Saturday evenings or Sunday afternoons/evenings. Other Softball Leagues: We are not in a position to offer fall softball for Pacific, National or American League players this year. We are unaware of any other Little Leagues in the area that will have fall softball for these younger players, and thus we do not have other teams for purposes of scheduling games. If you have any questions or comments regarding the fall softball program, please contact MLL's Vice President of Softball - Bill von Behren at bvbatbeach@aol.com. As we have in the past, MLL will offer a Fall Baseball Program. The emphasis in the Fall Baseball program is training and development and not winning. As such, there are no standings, play-offs and the scores of the game do not matter. The Fall Ball program will be divided into two leagues. Minor Leagues: Open to children between the age of 9 and 10 (as of 4/30/2007). These boys and girls will be expected to play in our Coast or International Leagues in the Spring. Some players will be experiencing kid-pitch baseball for the first time while others may have one or two years of experience. Most of the boys will have played in the California or Coast leagues during the 2006 Spring Season. Teams will be balanced to ensure a mix of players with different levels of skill. On an exception basis we will allow 11-year old children with limited skills to play in this league, but it will require a try-out. Games will be on Sunday afternoons and each team will have one practice per week. Major Leagues: Open to children between the age of 11 and 12 (as of 4/30/07). These boys and girls will be expected to play in the Majors and International Leagues in the Spring. Most players will have experienced one season of International baseball. Teams will be balanced to ensure a mix of players with different levels of skill. On an exception basis, we will allow 13-year old children with limited skills to play in the league, but a try-out will be required. Games will be on Saturday afternoons (4pm) and Wednesday Nights (4:30pm or 5:30pm start time). Teams may have optional practices. This year we are asking families to list conflicts and absences that they will be expecting. This will help in balancing teams and ensure that we have enough players for each game. If your child will miss over 50% of the games, you should not register for Fall Ball. We plan to enhance the Fall Ball program with additional training. We are still developing the form of the additional training and will contact you later with that information. The season will open on Saturday September 9th and close on Saturday November 21st. If you have any questions or comments regarding the fall baseball program, please contact MLL's Vice President of Baseball - Mark Macdonald at Mark_macdonald@capgroup.com. If you have any other questions, contact Andrea Fodness at andrea.yeiser@verizon.net. P.S. You may want to lookup your kid's physician's address and phone number first. Both are required on the online form. image
