OPENING DAY PARADE NEWS:
What a beautiful day for a parade on Saturday April 1st, 2006 as RGMVM Little League officially kicked off its 55th Season with its annual parade. This years parade was led by the Jackie Robinson Marching Band from Brooklyn. They looked and sounded terrific as the line of march went from Mafera Park to the RGMVM field on Woodhaven Blvd.
The parade was led by Councilman Dennis Gallagher who walked the two miles along side our neighborhood girls and boys. The marchers stretched for seven city blocks as they were warmly greeted by spectators including our local Myrtle Ave Firefighters. Upon arrival at the RGMVM fields the players were addressed by the honorable Dennis Gallagher who encouraged the athletes to play hard and enjoy the spirit of competition.
Umpire Richie Adams was honored (and given a plaque) by the league for his many years of service to the league and upon his appointment to umpire this year at the Eastern Regional Little League tournament.
It was good for one day to not hear about steroids, suspensions and random drug testing. This day belonged to the true spirit of the game "the kids". So let the games begin and good luck to all the players.
