News and Announcements

Continuing our series on pitchers of the year within each division at RGMVM, the Minor Division pitcher of the year is Joseph Santoro, who had an outstanding year in leading his team, 104 Roller Hockey, to the championship. Joseph went undefeated for the year and the play-offs. He also appeared in the All-star game for the Minor Division and again showed why he was the power pitcher in the Minor Division for 2003. The Rookie pitcher of the year is Chris Piteo, who also helped lead his team, the Metro Stars, to the championship. Chris also was the lead pitcher on the 8 year old travel team, the Bulldogs, and helped lead them to the NY State combined AABC / Federation Championship and a New York PONY Championship. Pitching for the Bulldogs, throughout the regular season, playoffs, tournament and Fall Season, Chris had a combined 16-3 record with a sparkling 2.17 e.r.a and 2 saves thrown in for good measure! These statistics are especially noteworthy since the Bulldogs played in an older league (9/10 year olds) in the Fall season. Chris has proven to be a real power pitcher for his age, striking out 187 batters in his 105 innings of work. The highlight of Chris's season of highlights occurred during the Fall season Diamond Pro's playoffs, where he pitched a complete game 4-3 victory over Yorkville. Yorkville is a team made up of 10 year olds and it turned out to be their only loss of the fall season! Chris has 4 seasons left to play at the RGMVM complex so his accomplishments are sure to grow. For now, he is the Rookie Power Pitcher of the Year.image
Pat Opened The Meeting At 7:20. The minutes from the last meeting were waived. Pat welcomed everyone back for the New Year. This year we will have monthly minutes posted on the web site for those who are unable to attend can still be informed. The calendar and raffles are ready. The calendar has been updated to include the 2005 registration dates. The February general meeting will be held at the greater Ridgewood youth council on Myrtle Ave on February 25th @7:30. Our registration is still one of the most inexpensive leagues to join, some are double the fee and 3 times the work detail. Division heads are responsible for getting all non-returning manager equipment bags back. All instructional managers will receive their own bag and be responsible for it. Managers are still needed in instructional, rookie, minor and major divisions. There are 4 sponsor spots available. Monday the 26th a new rules committee will meet to discuss the unification of rules for all division. for the season, playoffs, and drafts. There will be a coach’s clinic to teach new and existing managers the basics of running an efficient practice. The field has been paintballed over the winter. Several board members attended a youth coaches clinic at Mohegan sun...it was very informative on teaching the fundamentals from instructional to the major leagues. "it all comes down to the basics." The 2004 registration dates are posted on the web site and the local newspaper. Draft dates will be announced at the next board meeting. The meeting closed at 8:20.

RGMVM Little League held a celebration party last week for the two girl’s softball teams (Minor Division 9-10 team and the Junior 13-14 year old teams) that won the New York State District 27 Championships during the summer tournaments. There was plenty to eat and drink and the players got to see each other once again to celebrate. A good time was had by all that attended. This years honored teams were the 9-10 year old Minor Softball Division Champs & the 13-14 year old Junior Softball Division Champs. RGMVM Little League would like to extend a special thanks to Little League’s District 27 Administrator Harold Weissman for attending the celebration. RGMVM President Pat Piteo made a very inspiring speech explaining to the players that the memory of winning a district flag would always stay with them. He also spoke of the teamwork & dedication the players demonstrated which enabled them to achieve their accomplishment. He stated that players who kept up their interest in the sport would someday play on their High School & College teams. Pat also gave a very nice thank you to the parents. He reminded the kids that their parents are always there for them and support them in all their endeavors. Pat, Mike Scotko (Division Player Agent), and Mark Ferran (Asst. Player Agent) then presented all the players with championship team-picture plaques that showed the girls posing with their District 27 flags. The girls were then presented the players with their Championship team jackets that were donated by the league to show off their excellent accomplishment. Vice President Al Erdmann, Director of Softball Mike Scotko, Head player Agent Arlene Erdmann, Tournament Director Mark Ferran, Treasurer Cora Modica, Umpire in Chief Rich Adams, Rookie Player Agent Rob Hoffman, & Secretary Heather Hoffman were all on hand to recognize and cheer the players as the awards were presented.
