Lumber Company Out Slugs Rival Darcy

Posted by Robert Munday at Jul 1, 2003 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
In Tuesday night JPD "B" League action Lumber Company looked for revenge against long time rival Darcy who handed the LoCo a 15-0 defeat in their last meeting. This game was back and forth all night. Lumber Company took the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first on an E.Boe 2 run homerun. Darcy came right back in the bottom of one to plate 3 runs of their own. Lumber Company scored 1 run in the second to tie the game at 3. The tie however did not last long as Darcy scored 2 in the 2nd to go up 5-3. Lumber Co. opened the 3rd inning scoring 4 runs, keyed by a R.Nurczyk 3 run HR, to go up 7-5, but again Darcy came right back scoring 4 of their own runs in the bottom of the 3rd to go up 9-7. LoCo plated 4 more runs in the 4th to again jump back on top 11-9. However Darcy once again took the lead with a 3 run 4th. Neither team was able to score in the 5th, so heading into the 6th the score was Darcy 12, Lumber Co. 11. The 6th inning is where the LoCo offense really came alive, the LoCo scored 8 runs to take the 19-12 lead. A 2 run M.Wallace HR highlighted the inning. Lumber Company was able to hold Darcy to only 2 runs in their half of the 6th, so going into the 7th, Lumber Co. was leading 19-14. LoCo knew they needed to score more in the 7th because a 5 run lead would not be enough against a good offensive team like Darcy, and Darcy still had 3 of their homeruns left to use. Lumber Co. did not disappoint, scoring 7 more runs in the 7th to take a 26-14 lead. R.Nurczyk's second HR of the night keyed the inning. Darcy did answer in the bottom of the seventh with 2 HRs and 6 runs, but it would not be enough and Lumber Company won the game by a final score of 26-20. This was another one of those Lumber Co./Darcy match-ups which make the rivalry so much fun. LoCo hitting stars were B.Walsh, 4-4; M.Staab 3-3, 1 BB; E.Boe, 4-5, 1 HR, 6 RBIs; B.Petersen, 4-5; R.Nurczyk 3-5, 2 HRs, 7 RBIs; B.Munday, 2-2 and M.Wallace, 1 HR. LoCo had 29 hits as a team on the night. Lumber Company got a glimpse of how good they could be when they have all 12 of their players at the same game (it has not happened in months). It is a positive to build on for big tournaments that lie ahead. Lumber Co. next game is on Friday July 11th at 6:30pm on field #4 against Hope Softball. This Friday night game will be a tune up for weekend's tournament, as the Lumber Co. will be playing in a USSSA class "D" NIT in Sterling Heights, MI.image

LoCo Wins in Old School Fashion

Posted by Robert Munday at Jun 29, 2003 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Lumber Company improved its Friday night JPD "B" League record to 5-1 with an 18-14 win over Ken's Beverage. Lumber Co. was short players at game time and recruited Mr. Munday and Mr. Staab (fathers of LoCo players Bob Munday, Scott Munday and Matt Staab) from the stands to fill out the line-up card. The old guys added a little spark, Mr. Staab had a 2-2 night in the winning effort. Lumber Company hitting stars were J.Butscher, 5-5, 4 RBIs; K.Wallace, 4-4, 2 3Bs, 5 RBIs; J.Lesnik, 4-4 and J.Miko 3-4. Lumber Company's next game is Saturday at 12:00pm in the Belvidere USSSA "D" qualifier.image

LoCo 1-2 in Belvidere Qualifier

Posted by Robert Munday at Jun 29, 2003 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Lumber Company ventured outside the friendly confines of the Inwood Sports Complex this weekend playing in the Belvidere USSSA "D" Qualifier. LoCo finished the weekend a very disappointing 1-2. Lumber Company opened the tourney with Zebra Enterprises from Manchessey Park, IL. LoCo was missing several regulars this game and it showed as the mix of no hitting and awful defense led to the 19-4 loss. The lone bright spot for the Lumber Co. was M.Wallace's 2-2 performance including 1 HR, 1 2B and 2 RBIs. Despite the game one loss Lumber Co. was feeling confident going in to game 2 adding E.Boe, J.Behun and K.Wallace to their line-up. The game 2 opponent was Big Fish. Big Fish came out swinging putting up 8 runs in the top of the first. LoCo swung right back in the bottom of the first with their first 11 hitters reaching base safely on a combination of 7 hits and 4 walks. LoCo put up 10 runs prior to their first out. LoCo never let up winning the game by the 15 run rule 25-10 in 4 innings. 8 LoCo players had 2 hits or more in this short contest. Game 3 was a rematch against Unishippers from Hainesville, IL, a team the LoCo beat earlier in the year. This game saw another team go up big on the LoCo in the top of the first inning, Unishippers scored 6 runs to start the ball game. LoCo again came right back in their bottom half of the first inning scoring 6 of their own runs to tie the game. However the Unishipper bats stayed hot, where the LoCo struggled to score runs in several innings, a couple which homerun outs killed some possible momentum shifts leading to the final score of Unishippers 18, Lumber Co. 9. Having good tournaments for the Lumber Company were B.Munday hitting .800; R.Nurczyk, .667; E.Boe, .600; J.Behun, .600; J.Lesnik, .556 and M.Wallace, .500. The Lumber Company's next game is Tuesday night at 8:30 on field #3 against Darcy.image
Lumber Company leaves Joliet, IL and the Inwood Sports Complex for the first time this season to play in the Belvidere USSSA "D" Qualifier. The tournament is being played at the Boone County Fairgrounds in Belvidere, IL. LoCo's first game is at 12:00pm against Zebera Enterprises. A win a 12:00 would advance the LoCo to Sunday. There are 11 teams in the USSSA "D" tournament this weekend in Belvidere.
